Saturday Happenings

ucf_site.jpg Country Fairs

Better known for its fringey, queer art performances and film nights than anything "country," Truth Serum nonetheless hosts today's "Urban Country Fair" in Somerville. Events include workshops from Boston SkillShare, music from DJ Brother Cleve, Three Day Threshold, and Lucky 57, and a yogurt making lesson. Plenty of shopping to boot. Union Square, Somerville, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free. More information.

Pirates

Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day, which we weren't even sure that they were still doing. Now nearly 15 years old, the joke holiday is apparently not wearing thin. Celebrate it tonight with likeminded nineties nostalgists, including burlesque performers, comedians, and performance artists. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline, midnight Sunday, $15/$20. More information.

Picnics

The Fall Forest Festival is a chance to bring your kids, if you have them, to Franklin Park for an afternoon of games, tree climbing, and nature walks. Shatuck Picnic Grove, Franklin Park, Dorchester, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. More information.

Movies

The HFA's Sharon Lockhart retrospective continues with Goshogaoka (1997), a hypnotizing look at a Japanese gym class and Teatro Amazonas (1999), a documentary about going to the opera in the Brazilian rain forest. Lockhart will be on hand. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $10. More information.
