Photo of the Day, September 23, 2009: Interior Dome

interiordome.jpg

David Paul Ohmer brought us a site that many visitors to Massachusetts, and probably plenty of residents, have never seen; the inside of the dome of the State House. A fantastic site to behold, the colors and details are wonderful and there is a symmetry to the framing that's pleasing.

And it's a "fantastic sight to behold" for that matter.

As a former State House staffer for four years I must correct that this photo is not of the famed golden dome.

The underside of the golden dome is in the Senate Chamber. It is true that it is more difficult to see the underside of the golden dome since visiting hours to the chamber - not to mention flash photography - are limited. THIS dome, that Mr. Ohmer captured, is I believe in Nurse's Hall which is on the 2nd floor of the State House and accessible to all.
