Say what you will about Curt Schilling, you usuallly know exactly where he stands on every issue on which he chooses to opine. Quite often it feels like he addresses every single issue. Schilling appeared on Joe Buck Live on HBO on Tuesday and held nothing back except for some choice language Buck only hears from Artie Lange.
Curt made news, naturally, by finally confirming he isn't a candidate to replace Edward M. Kennedy in the U.S. Senate. He said he discussed the idea of running with Shonda Schilling, his wife of 17 years, as she put his baseball career first for so long. Buck asked if Curt was wary of the political media barrage he'd have faced if he ran. He said he'd have done fine based on his experience dealing with the sports media in Boston and Philadelphia.
Eventually, Buck steered the chat towards steroids. Schilling briefly delved into his 2005 testimony before Congress on steroids, and said he was disappointed that he, as a clean player, played in a dirty era. He was blunt on Roger Clemens by saying that while he did work hard, the steroids question requires a one-word answer and he failed at that in Curt's mind.
Buck closed by getting Curt's take on baseball's upcoming playoffs. He predicted a Red Sox World Series title, and singled out Josh Beckett and Jon Lester as reasons why. Mr. 38 said "power pitching" is what wins in October and specified Jon Lester as one of the game's top power pitchers along with Tim Lincecum of San Francisco.
