  • Thirteen communities Massachusetts are getting $8.1 million in federal stimulus cash to rehire 127 firefighters. [Boston Herald]
  • While Martha Coakley has some favorable polling data, Alan Khazei has something Coakley probably won't get: the endorsement of a Kennedy, in this case, RFK's son Max Kennedy. [Boston Globe]
  • A few city officials are considering bringing back the Boston Police mounted unit to help control crowds in case the Red Sox make a prolonged playoff run. The unit was eliminated earlier this year due to budget cuts. [Boston Herald]
  • Harvard has purchased the writings and papers of John Updike. Updike graduated from Harvard in 1954, and died in January. [Boston Globe]
  • Boston is the third best sports city, according to The Sporting News. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia finished first and second, respectively. At least we beat fifth-place L.A. [Boston Business Journal]
  • The Massachusetts RMV will bring back its license renewal reminder service, which was dropped in November as a cost-saving measure. [WCVB]
