While Bud Selig teases us with the idea of an actual playoff game involving the Red Sox, the rest of the sports world is moving at a faster pace.
Your Boston Bruins signed Phil Kessel Milan Lucic to a three-year extension through 2012-2013. Good for the B's, and Lucic. He plays hard, fans love him and he is exactly the kind of player the franchise wants to have. However, they just gave $12.25 million over three years to a player with 25 career goals.
In Foxboro, the Patriots have some interesting off-field news to consider:
- Junior Seau may be unretiring again. He had a physical with the team, and said "The Pats are the team I’ll answer a call for, and the only team." [Boston Globe]
- There will be no fines for the Baltimore Ravens for their comments about officiating during Sunday's game with the Patriots. Baltimore felt Tom Brady got preferential treatment. Some media reports suggest the lack of fines is equivalent to the NFL admitting the calls were wrong. [ESPN]
- Eric Mangini traded wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets for two players and two draft picks. This may or may not help the Jets, Bostonist isn't sure. We'll bet Mangini hopes this trade will ultimately haunt Bill Belichick and the NEP. [AP via Yahoo! Sports]
The Celtics are making news, too. Doc Rivers said he expects Rajon Rondo to stay in green for his entire career. Rivers will keep tabs on Kevin Garnett in tonight's preseason game.
