Movies
We're big fans of Home Movie Day, the national celebration of home movies, because we dig antiquated things like Super 8 and 16 millimeter film. Home Movie Day is the opportunity for you to bring your old, moldering films to the HFA, see them on the big screen, and get some advice from professional film archivists about how to preserve your personal collection. Fun for voyeurs, too. And, yes, video is allowed, but you're limited to five minutes of it. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge 11 a.m. (screenings begin at 1 p.m.). Free. More Information.
Beer
BeerAdvocate's Belgian Beer Fest has returned for a second year, giving you the opportunity to quaff more than 100 Belgian and Belgian-style beers and to learn where they get their notorious funk. Unfortunately, you might have to rob somebody outside of the venue to get a ticket. Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St., South End, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sold out.
Boats
If you didn't know that the Head of the Charles Regatta starts today, then you haven't tried walking through Harvard Square recently. Charles River, 7:45 a.m., through Sunday. Free.
Bikes
The annual Tour de Somerville is the chance to ride the city by bike, protected by Somerville's Finest, while learning a thing or two about its geography. This year's theme is "City of Seven (Or More) Hills," and it's an opportunity to ride Somerville's hills, even the missing ones, without worrying too much about where they came from or where they went. The organizers plan brief stops at the top of each hill, but promise "we won't have extended history lectures or speeches." Catering by Redbones. Seven Hills Park, Davis Square, 10 a.m. (rain date is tomorrow). Free. More information.
Weird Music
Non-Event and the Goethe Institute bring together renowned German sound artist Achim Wollscheid and local analog wizard Jason Lescalleet for an evening of broken music. Bring your earplugs and set your noise tolerance on high. Goethe Institute, Boston, 170 Beacon St., 8 p.m. $10.
Metal
If noise music is too extreme for your tastes, take it down a notch and check out the showcase of Boston metal popping off in Allston. Bands include 18 Wheels of Justice, Led to the Grave, Dead Like Death, and Hostile Takeover. O'Brien's Pub, 3 Harvard Ave., Allston, 9 p.m. $9.
