Thank goodness! The ninth inning of the ALDS Game 3 (and, um, the bulk of the Mets' 2009 season) really was just a bad dream! StubHub has awaken us from the nightmare that suggested that the Yankees might actually come out victorious and that A-Rod figured out how to show up for the postseason and--
Oh wait. About that. Nevermind. Thanks, StubHub, for kicking us while we're down. Email glitch? We suspect that the email folks are Yankees fans.
If so, those fans aren't feeling as confident today as they were this time on Monday. Karma! The Angels, showing some moxie and drive, battled the Yanks into the 11th inning on Monday evening and emerged the victors of ALCS Game 3. The hero of the day? Jeff Mathis, who hit a two-out double to knock in the winning run at the end of the 5-4 Angels victory. New York leads the series 2-1, but we're thinking that the Angels could make a run of it, now that they know they can beat the pinstripes. On the National League side, Manny Ramirez and the rest of the Dodger lineup is on the brink of elimination after Monday's Philadelphia 5-4 NLCS Game 4 victory.
Things are continuing to be shaken up on the ice, as the Bruins lost Milan Lucic for 4-6 weeks. Lucic underwent surgery for a broken right finger on Sunday. Between Lucic's injury, the Chuck Kobasew trade, the fact that Kessel's long gone and the listless play that doesn't resemble anything we've come to know about new Bruins hockey, we don't blame you if you're having a hard time figuring out who's who on the ice. A tip: the really really tall guy is Zdeno Chara.
Finally, on the Pats side of things, we're as confused as you are: Tully Banta-Cain was released on Monday, but the linebacker could possibly be back. Today. Yeah.
