Sports Redux: Ow-Ooooooo, Pats Are In London

patslondon.jpg "It’s the only team that has the word ‘England’ in it," joked Alastair Kirkwood, the managing director of NFL UK. Ah, so that's why the Patriots had to spend last night flying across the Atlantic to get ready for Sunday's game against the Bucs in London.

The boys apparently forgot to tell Tom Brady that the dress code was athlete-casual (Coach seemed to dress up a little), and Adalius Thomas experienced some bus confusion (do they have a separate DNP-CD bus?)

So now it's time to see London! Well...no, not really. "“We’re not going out to see the sights," said Tom Brady. "A dollar isn’t even worth a pound over there," grumped Laurence Maroney. "We’re not going over there to have any fun," added Logan Mankins, which makes us almost feel sorry for the guys and wish for their sakes that they were headed to Cincinnati this weekend. As for the 0-6 Bucs? "Bill Belichick is not going to take it easy on us," coach Raheem Morris warned his team...I’m sure [he] is licking his chops. And, he should be." That's some inspirational speechifying, right there.

We found out this morning that Sally Reese, the wife of ex-Titans GM Floyd Reese, watched the Patriots blow out Tennessee on Sunday, and wished it had been worse. "I was hoping they'd run it to 100" on the team that fired her husband, she said. There's just no pleasing some people.

There was some pleasing news for all the good-hearted folk who hoped against hope that the Angels would make the Yankees sweat in the ALCS. The Yanks put up a 6-spot against Anaheim in the seventh, the Halos came back and took three off the NY bullpen to get a 7-6 win and force the series back to the Bronx. The New York press can't stop thinking about 2004. If Game Six starter Joe Saunders is thinking about experimental ankle surgery between now and the first pitch, we suggest he give it a shot.

The Bruins still haven't managed to put together a two-game winning streak, but at least they got out of Philly with a point in the standings after last night's 4-3 shootout loss. At this point in the season, with everyone hurt, they'll take a point on the road. They'll visit the surprisingly good Senators tomorrow.
