Sunday Happenings

boston-comic-con.gif Escape From Mom's Basement

We're big fans of the Boston Comic Con, which is reliably awesome and for the nerds. The guests this weekend include Louise Simonson, which alone is reason enough to go. She created Power Pack, dudes and dudines. Back Bay Events Center, Old John Hancock Building, 180 Berkeley St., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $10.

Party at City Hall

Yes, there are festivals at City Hall Plaza all the freaking time, but how many of them have a Thriller dance rehearsal and a performance by the pleasantly demented Walter Sickert and his Army of Broken Toys? The Boston Monster March is the only one that springs to mind. City Hall Plaza, noon to 10 p.m. Free for fundraising walkers, $30/$20 donations, otherwise. More information.

12 Tones and the Truth

The Emmanuel Church Chamber Series features Schoenberg's delightful but rarely performed 12-tone ditty Serenade, Op. 24 (1920-1923). Less adventurous is the program of Haydn's vocal solos. Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury St., 4 p.m. $10 to $50. More information.

Lanterns

JP's annual Lantern Parade will be lighting up the Jamaica Pond tonight. Make your own or stop in to City Feed to buy one at an impressive mark-up. Jamaica Pond, Jamaica Plain, 6 p.m. More information.

Weird Country

Is it weird to you that there was a time when uncategorizable folk, rock, and country warbler Vic Chesnutt was signed to a major label? Ah, the 90s. He isn't, any longer, but he's still turning out albums at an impressive clip. Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, 7:30 p.m. $17.
