Monday Happenings

The funkiest Canadians since Ladies' Choice, Junior Boys rock a blue-eyed electro throwback vibe that smooths down the edges and gets asses on the dancefloor. It's a more potent cure for what ails you than l'Assurance Maladie, provided that what ails you is an unwillingness to get funky and not, say, tuberculosis. Middle East Downstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8 p.m. $13.

Dancing Hipsters, Redux

Do the kids still like mashup master Girl Talk? Bostonist is too old to understand the vicissitudes of fashion, but we can put in a good word for Gregg Michael Gillis's onstage antics. Infectious, possibly dangerous. With Senior Discount, which we think is a band and not a cheap way for us to see the show. House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St., 7 p.m. $15.

Latin Sounds

Berklee comes correct this month with its Latin Culture Celebration, a series of concerts spotlighting the diverse musical traditions of Latin America. Things get started in overdrive tonight as blazing hot Mexican vibist Victor Mendoza splits the stage with Marcus Santos, the Berklee alumnus from Bahia, Brazil who fronts Boston's Bloco AfroBrazil. Cafe 939, 939 Boylston St., 8 p.m. Free.

Cops

Documentary filmmaker John Marshall beat Cops to the punch by 20 years or so. His short films of the Pittsburgh Police in action during the years in the aftermath of the King assassination provided a startling ethnography of police work that "cut to the bone of such issues as privacy and civil liberties versus police intervention while providing a fascinating perspective on one of the most turbulent periods in recent American history." Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $8/$6. More information.

Gypsy Schtick

Polish duo Gypsy Sound System recasts old recordings of Balkan throwdowns as modern dance jams, sprinkling them with a beat here and there. Presented by Beat Research, it's probably the most challenging dance music out there tonight. Enormous Room, 567 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9 p.m. Free.
