Fado
When we think of Fado, the mournful Portuguese songform, we usually envision smoky voiced singers of yesteryear, but Portuguese fadista Mariza is very much of the now. Born in Mozambique, when it was part of Portugal, Mariza brings her African heritage to the classic form, sometimes anchoring her songs on Afro-Brazilian rhythmic conceits. Her crystal clear voice drips with sorrow, and she has been known to move crowds to tears. Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass. Ave., 8 p.m. $30 to $42. More information.

Pozen Center, North Building, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, 621 Huntington Ave., 5 p.m. Free. More information.
