Noise
The Northeast and Power Electronics showcase concludes tonight with a slew of greater Boston's angry young men and their effects pedals. The bill includes Consumer Electronics, Suffering Bastard, Cathode Terror Secretion, and Japanese Torture Comedy Hour, which claims to sound like "Boyd Rice as a Sanrio character." O'Brien's Pub, 3 Harvard Ave., Allston, 3 p.m. $25.
Knitting
Claiming that "I purl for a purpose," the third annual Pine Street Inn Knit-a-thon raises money for the homeless shelter and results in the new blankets that each resident receives when moving into it. GE Healthcare, 116 Huntington Ave., 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information.
Movies
The HFA's showcase of the films of Argentinian director Lisandro Alonso concludes today with his first feature, La Libertad (2001), the exploration of a single day in the life of a migrant woodcutter. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $12. More information.
Hip Hop
Minneapolis MC Brother Ali is an ongoing argument for the vitality of underground hip hop. Well known for political jams like "Uncle Sam Goddamn," Ali rides slackly funky beats that sound like they were robbed from Isaac Hayes's basement. Ali rhymes without the bullshit; we're pretty sure "Fresh Air" was the first rap song we've ever heard about signing a mortgage. Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 8 p.m. $16.
