Sunday Happenings

Knife Play

Japanese punk band Shonen Knife has been offering its hybrid of Phil Spector and Joey Ramone since 1981, longer than some readers of this blog have been alive. Incredibly, the band still churns out about an album a year, demonstrating the infinite mutability of three chords and three miniskirts. Performing with Nashville's Jeff the Brotherhood and Boston's The Needy Visions. Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave., Allston, 9 p.m. $12.

Nacimento

Longstanding MPB workhorse Milton Nacimento has released nearly 40 albums since 1968, and his silky-voiced, Afro-Brazilian take on bossa nova has more than justified his prolificacy. Tonight's performance, in the stately Berklee Performance Center, promises to be a highlight of the year in Brazilian music. Presented by World Music. Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass. Ave., 8 p.m. $30 to $42. More information

Comfort

Boston's mac-and-cheese fad has had real staying power, and the Hub can proudly be considered a mac-and-cheese Mecca. But, if you think your home recipe can outdo the professional competition, you can prove it by entering the Boston Macaroni & Cheese Takedown. And if you like carbo-loading, you can just show up and chow down. Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave., Allston, 2:30 p.m. $10 More information.

New Music

The rainy weather could easily drive a person to Stockhausen, which is lucky because Katherine Chi and Aleksandar Madzar will perform his seminal Mantra for two pianos with percussion and electronics at the Izzy G. this afternoon. Tapestry Room, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 280 The Fenway, 1:30 p.m. $23/$18/$15/$10. More information.
