Sports Redux: Shake It Off

In an ideal situation, when one Boston team stumbles, another soars. A loss in one sport is cushioned with a win in another.

But then there are days like Monday. Ugly, ugly, ugly days. As such, today is all about shaking off the losses.

For the Celtics, that's easier said than done, given the fact that the Green decided to play to the level of their opposition on Monday - and that opposition consisted of the basement-dwelling Golden State Warriors. A season-high 26 turnovers and an inability to play a complete game kept the door open, despite another huge game from Rajon Rondo (30 points, 15 assists), led to a 103-99 loss for the Boston team.

Speaking of playing down, the Bruins played a solid 20 minutes during their game against the Lightning in Tampa on Monday night, but spaced out during the other 40 minutes. The result? The Lightning skated to a 2-1 victory.

The Bruins were left with no excuse other than the obvious. “We played one period,’’ admitted Marc Savard. “It was almost enough. But in this league, most nights, it’s not going to be enough.’’

The team has a chance to recover and finetune before they face Atlanta at home at the Garden on Wednesday, the final game before they head out onto the ice at Fenway. And while the warm and rainy weather from the last couple of days has people nervous about the progress of the Fenway ice, the word is that everything's just fine.
