While Sutherland, star of TV's 24 (and recent Legends Classic hockey player), was apologizing to everyone he's ever known during his Wednesday Late Show with David Letterman appearance, it's the Pats who owe Jack Bauer the apology.
Sutherland surprised Letterman and his audience alike when he walked out wearing a green patterned dress and a sheepish expression. The actor's wardrobe choice, he quickly admitted, came as a result of Sunday's Ravens playoff victory over your own New England Patriots.
"Over the weekend," Sutherland said, "I was so sure New England was going to win that I told a guy--who used to be my friend--that if New England lost I would wear a dress on Letterman."
"This, I think, might be the most humiliating moment in my life," he later stated, "and I've had a couple to choose from."
At least there's a silver lining: someone finally was able to share with non-Patriot fans the agony and discomfort New England fans have been experiencing since Sunday. We're sure it doesn't help, but we here at Bostonist HQ salute you, Kiefer.
