Another loss. Another first-half lead thrown away. Another Rasheed Wallace fine. At least this time, it was on the road.
The Celtics, who once dreamed of 70+ wins, are now under .500 in the year 2010. In fact, they've been winless since the Patriots were knocked out of the playoffs, except for that charity game against New Jersey high schoolers. Kevin Garnett's due back tomorrow, and we need him.
So what happened? The C's took a 56-48 lead into halftime, against a Detroit team missing Ben Gordon, who lit them up in the playoffs last year with Chicago, as well as sans Tayshaun Prince, a perennial thorn in our side. Then the Pistons went on a 19-6 run. Then Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva started shooting the lights out. Then the Celtics looked up and realized they only scored 30 points in the second half. It all adds up to a 92-86 loss, their third in a row.
And off the court, things were just as bad. Rasheed got another bill from the league office, this one for $35,000 for criticizing the refs after the Dallas game, though he did stay away from his "Basketball Without Borders" showstopper. And Glen Davis is probably going to find himself in hot water soon; he swore at a Detroit heckler who called him "fat boy", then ran to security as soon as Baby turned the tables. Seriously, though, points for "fat boy". That's some creative heckling, right there.
The Bruins would also like to get themselves going, and tonight's game against a bad Columbus team would seem to be a good time. The good news for the B's is that Marc Savard was skating at practice, so he might be ready sooner than hoped. The bad news is that the clock is ticking on the team's patience with Dennis Wideman's unpredictability. "He needs to pick up his game. He knows it," says Coach Julien.
We don't talk about golf too much in this space, because...well, it's golf, but the rumor that Tiger Woods has checked himself in to a sex-rehab clinic in Mississippi is too good to pass up. Luckily, to answer all your unanswered questions (well...not ALL of them), Deadspin has inspected the brochure of Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services, so you can find out that a sex-rehab clinic probably isn't what you expected.
