Boston Blotter: Spurned Lover Murder Convictions Edition

Blotter-Body-Outline.jpg -- Nicole Chuminski, 27, was convicted of killing her lover's two children when she set fire to their house. Chuminski killed Acia and Sophia Johnson, ages 14 and 13, had "a rocky relationship" with the girls' mother, Anna Reisopoulos, and set the fatal fire as an act of out-of-control vengeance after a lovers' spat. -- Da Lin Huang, 47, was convicted of the 2001 killing of his estranged wife, Gin Hua Xu, in his Allston apartment. Huang's attorney had argued that he was mentally incompetent and not criminally responsible for the act, but the jury disagreed, finding that Huang had "acted with extreme atrocity or cruelty" during and after the killing. Huang stabbed Xu to death with electrician's pliers and strangled and mutilated her body. [Suffolk County DA]

-- Mark Kerrigan, Nancy Kerrigan's 45-year-old brother, can return to his mother's house while he undergoes a mental health evaluation. [Herald]

-- Boston cops identified a suspect in the 1972 murder of Ellen Rutchick and a 1985 rape of a 21-year-old Back Bay woman. The only problem? He's been dead since 2001. [BPDNews]

-- A 75-year-old Somervillian stopped a robbery in Malden and even took a few swings at the alleged perp. No word on whether or not she wanted him on her lawn. [Bostonist]
