The Boston MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center is open Tuesday through Sunday; from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 1 to 5 p.m. all other days. Adoption rates vary, but you can find all adoption information and policies here. Not able to adopt? The MSPCA always needs volunteers, foster families and donations!

Looking for some black magic? Then Soot's your guy... (A220854)

As his name indicates, Soot is a bonafide black cat, from head to tail. They say all-black cats are the hardest to find homes for, and currently at the Animal Care and Adoption Center, this seems to be true: the two longest-standing residents are two older, all black cats: Soot and Cleo. Despite his big green eyes and laid-back charm, Soot has been at the Animal Care and Adoption Center since just before Halloween.

But don't let superstitions keep you from this handsome fellow. Soot was named for the ash in fireplaces, in large part because he loves to cuddle up where it's warm! He loves sunny windowsills, blankets and laps. Approximately 5 years old, Soot is more of a laid-back lap/couch companion, so if you're looking for a mellow buddy, he's your guy.

Soot's just an all-around friendly boy. The MSPCA staff think he'd do well with a dog and other cats, or all by himself. He's already been neutered, too, and could be taken home the same day.

Give Soot (or Cleo, if you're looking for a girl!) a chance. After all, who doesn't want their very own Basement Cat?!

All MSPCA Adoption Center cats come fully house trained, and the adoption fee of $150 (cats aged 5 months and up) covers spay/neuter, de-worming, flea & tick preventative, microchipping and and vaccinations good for a year after adoption. Please come prepared to show photo i.d. and proof of either home ownership, or pets allowed on your lease. For more information on the adoption process, please click here.
