According to the Globe, Boston defense attorney Stephen B. Hrones faces a one year suspension of his law license after a paralegal in his firm posed as a lawyer.
Hrones has a fancypants law degree from Harvard, but that didn't prevent his paralegal Lionel Porter from pretending to be a lawyer. Hrones denies wrongdoing, claiming "I was too trusting of this individual, and now I’m paying the price." But Hrones should know from phonies. His client roster includes the notorious mastermind Christian Karl Gehartsreiter, better known as "Clark Rockefeller."
The worst part of this case? Porter sucked as a pretend lawyer! His terrible lawyering resulted in a series of "bungled" cases, and he even kept the attorney's fees for himself. It should surprise nobody to learn that Porter finished law school but was never admitted to the bar.
Hrones will appear before the Supreme Judicial Court this May to appeal the decision.
