Boston Blotter: Rehoboth Baby Died, Springfield Girl Almost Shot, Granny Driving Drunk

-- The 2-year-old Rehoboth child allegedly beaten by his mother died early Friday morning. On Thursday, Kim Peno, 38, was held without bail and charged with "assault to murder and assault and battery of a child, causing substantial injury" at an arraignment in Taunton Thursday. The charges could be upgraded. Peno faces a competency hearing Monday. [Herald]

-- A 5-year old Springfield girl was nearly wounded by a stray bullet from a street shooting on Thursday. A suspect fired six shots, one of which went through her second-floor window. One man involved in the incident was shot in the buttocks. Police said the wounded man referred to the suspect who shot him as "Froggy." An investigation is underway. No arrests were announced. -- A Marblehead grandmother was arrested for drunk driving for the third time Thursday. The 63-year old was arrested yesterday after police allege she hit a tree while driving her grandson to school. They left the scene and made it to the school in an undetermined manner where the grandmother was arrested and the boy was taken to the hospital. The car in question was a Toyota Camry. The Salem News actually reported the tree was damaged. [Salem News]

-- A woman was allegedy robbed at the Alewife T station earlier this week by a female suspect impersonating a police officer. [Cambridge Chronicle]
