April may be known for its showers, but it makes up for lousy weather in beer events. There are a number of events celebrating the worthy elixir this month from tastings to all-out beer festivals. Below are a select few to wet your taste buds.
The Boston Beer Summit
On Friday April 16th and Saturday the 17th, over 50 brewers will gather to share with us lucky beer lovers more than 200 brews. The entrance fee gets you all this plus a commemorative tasting cup and entertainment: Chopville will be playing Friday night and Saturday afternoon and The Not Pretty’s will play Saturday night. Tickets are $40; held at the Park Plaza Castle.
SlowFest
This festival celebrates session beers (see earlier post) and foods from local producers. Friday, April 23rd is the VIP Session Obsession, where every beer will be under 4.5% abv. The idea is to allow for the opportunity to test many beers including some brewed just for SlowFest. Of course there will be loads of local foods to taste as well. There are two sessions on Saturday, April 24th, also featuring local food as well as beers below 6% abv. Tickets are $40 now and $45 at the door; held at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Boston Bacon & Beer Festival
In the name of several local community charities, Boston chefs and New England brewers are getting together to celebrate the letter "B." Bacon themed food and beer (not bacon flavored) are the name of the game on Saturday, April 24th. There will even be music, local artists, and most importantly, pig butchery demonstrations. The tickets are currently sold out, but a few hundred more will be available in a week; just keep at eye on the website. Tickets are $25; held at the Power Station in the SoWa district of the South End.
And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. April is a good month for beer, so check out BeerAdvocate for more fests and tastings and happy drinking!
