In a skermish between Governor Deval Patrick and the Boston Globe, Bostonist wouldn't really support either side. We're underwhelmed by Governor Patrick, and, well, it's the Globe.
Today, we have to defend our Governor. He's back from visiting American troops in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Germany. (Now we know what the secrecy was about.) His return to Massachusetts was greeted with seeming indifference to the gravity of his just finished overseas trip.
The Globe story on his return said he "defended his decision" to go overseas during the "intense debate" over casino gambling. As important as the casino debate is, the Governor has nothing to defend. Young citizens of Massachusetts, including members of Massachusetts National Guard are putting their lives at risk. They've earned the right to have respect paid to them like Patrick did on his trip. It's more important than the stupid racino pissing contest.
In fairness to the Globe, we don't know who raised the issue. It might not have been a Globe staffer. We have a hunch.
