Craigslist finally responded to external pressure and closed the "adult services" section of the popular classified advertisement website. The word "censored" now appears in its place.
Two weeks ago, 17 state attorneys general called for the closure of controversial section. Bay State Attorney General Martha Coakley made her own statement calling for the same thing.
Craigslist has been getting tons of negative attention, and not all of it courtesy of Phillip Markoff, who allegedly killed Julissa Brisman in April of 2009 before killing himself last month. Criminal incidents involving Craigslist also happened in Milton and Brockton.
Craigslist still maintains a "personals" section. It includes a "warning & disclaimer" to protect minors and warns users about content. We don't know if these ads are so safe that they don't need to be censored, too.
