Sports Redux: Double Play

redsox.jpg Hurricane Earl has spoken. The Red Sox listened, and Friday's game with the White Sox was, literally, washed away. The reunion with Manny Ramirez is moved to Saturday in the form of a day-night doubleheader with games at 1:05 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. Friday's tickets are good for 1:05 p.m.

At this point in the baseball season, an individual game doesn't really matter. Bostonist is more concerned with Dustin Pedroia's foot. Pedroia had season-ending surgery Friday. He's planning to be ready for spring training.

Something else that doesn't really matter is Manny Ramirez. He is back in Boston, and accepted the blame for his Red Sox career ending badly. He even said he, unlike Johnny Damon, would have come back to Boston in a waiver trade.

Hockey preseason officially starts on September 17 when the Boston Bruins begin training camp. We won't remind you of how the 2009-2010 season ended. The big issue for the Bruins has been Marc Savard trade rumors. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli gave Savard a dreaded vote-of-confidence by saying "I expect Marc to be a Bruin under his contract seasons." Anyone know a broker in Columbus?

Tiger Woods continues to struggle at the sport he once dominated. He was a shot out of last place after just nine holes at the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton. Woods finished the first round at +1, nine shots behind the leaders, and just two strokes north of last place. We hate to get too metaphysical, however, Hurricane Earl, Earl Woods. Discuss.

Monarcas Morelia beat the New England Revolution, 2-1, in the 2010 SuperLiga Championship game in Foxboro at Gillette Stadium. The Revs won the SuperLiga title in 2008, and had never lost to a Mexican team in SuperLiga play before Morlia beat them on Wednesday.
