At around 11 p.m. on Friday night, Hurricane Earl was downgraded to Tropical Storm Earl as the winds dropped to 70 miles per hour.

Amtrak train service was stopped between New York and Boston on Friday. At Logan Airport, only Cape Air flights were affected by Earl.

Despite reports throughout the day that the storm was weakening, Cape Cod residents prepared for a significant storm to hit the area. At least one Winthrop resident wasn't really worried. "It'll be nothing," said Bob Gordon of Winthrop.
