There's no clever way to say it: This is the last word from Bostonist. Last week, Gothamist informed me that Bostonist will be going on hiatus and the blog will be shut down. At least we outlasted the 2011 Red Sox. Most of all, I have to thank anybody who has ever read Bostonist in the past year or so since I became the editor. I appreciate knowing that so many people chose to visit this site to get my perspective on what happens in the world. more ›

We've got a new controversy, courtesy of the Boston Herald. President Obama mentioned meeting a teacher from Boston named Robert Baroz who has been laid off three times in four years. Baroz visited the White House but never met Obama. He's currently employed, too. The Herald says he fudged on Baroz being unemployed to bolster his jobs bill. The President never said he was unemployed. Three pink slips in four year is no way to live. more ›

Mitt Romney apparently wishes Osama bin Laden was alive because he hired several former Bush administration staffers as foreign policy advisers and criticized President Obama's foreign policy. [Boston Globe] Remember to follow Bostonist on Twitter and like us on Facebook. more ›

Sports Redux: Banner Edition

Yes, the Bruins lost the season opener last night. But, hey, they put the banner up! How cool is that? Still a great night. And, of course, it's always a good night if Bobby Orr shows up. Enjoy the gratuitous banner shots. more ›

The Bruins ended the 2010-2011 season with a win and began the 2011-2012 season with a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia last night. The evening was also a production of the team's coronation as Stanley Cup. A firetruck brought the Cup to the Garden through a gauntlet of uniformed police, firefighters, and soldiers. The players brought the Cup to the ice and raised the new banner with help from Bruins' legends like Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson, and Milt Schmidt. more ›

The Boston Herald's Friday Throwdown topic is: Occupy Boston: Rebels or whiners. We love the idea of participation in any public forum. But, we have a pretty good idea of what the Herald forum will produce and much of it won't be pro-Occupy Boston. That is being kind, honestly. Think train wreck. more ›

The Bruins won the banner raised tonight in June. Watertown-based New England Flag & Banner made it. [Boston Herald] Cam Neely and Charlie Jacobs brought the Stanley Cup to Beacon Hill today. We think the Cup is taller than Governor Deval Patrick. [Boston Herald] Remember to follow Bostonist on Twitter and like us on Facebook. more ›

Comedian Bill Burr came back to his hometown on September 23rd to do 2 nights of sold out shows at the Wilbur Theatre but he gave us some time to do a Tour of Boston, driving by old haunts and places where he first performed. Check out the video! more ›

Sarah Palin isn't "seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States" - her words. We're not sure that rules her out entirely as a third-party candidate because she might just decide to go rogue again. She won't go away, however, as she still wants to liberate us from President Obama and, ahhh, help America by talking. "I need to be able to say what I want to say," she said. more ›

Attention criminals! Don't ask cops to smoke crack and don't tell them you have crack on you to smoke with them. Last week in Central Square, two undercover detectives arrested a Medford man who allegedly asked them to go get “get some beers and smoke some crack.” The suspect also asked for a crack pipe and showed the officers the cocaine. They walked with the suspect across Mass. Ave to Essex Street where they displayed badges and identified themselves as Cambridge Police detectives. The suspect had to be told what he did wrong. He was arrested for possession of cocaine. [Wicked Local Cambridge] more ›

Let the real campaign begin! Senator Scott Brown has finally engaged apparent Democratic Senate campaign frontrunner Elizabeth Warren in the build up to the 2012 election. Naturally, it's on a pressing issue: Nudity. During Tuesday's debate, some reporter asked a time-wasting question about Brown's mostly naked Cosmo picture taken to get him through college. Warren said “I kept my clothes on.” Today, Brown responded by saying "Thank God" in an interview with WZLX this morning. Beavis would be proud of the Senator. more ›

The Bruins are back tonight less than four months after winning the Stanley Cup and bringing it back to Boston. The summer-long Cup fun is over, the players got their much-earned rings - 505 people got rings, even Tomas Kaberle, we think - that are almost as big as the Cup. Okay, not quite. more ›
