Gisele Bundchen has a new line of sandals, which look kind of like Havainas but more stylin', more rainforest-saving, and, we're sure, more pricey. But they may be worth it: these magical sandals appear to exist underground, and can quickly grow leaves to hide your feet when needed. They also each have a small metallic stud. Overall, very elven. And no need to fear, shorties: platform varieties are available as well. more ›

With the economic slowdown projected to worsen this year, Boston-Metro and New England will not be immune. That's why we think it's important to note a conference like the MarketingProfs Business-to-Business Forum being held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel on June 8th and 9th. more ›

Aaaand the winner of our Peeps in Boston Photo Contest is (insert drumroll here): Joshua Grzegorzewski! In addition to roaming around Boston, Joshua's peeps (colorful rabbits rather than the more traditional yellow chicks) even got numbered to run in the Boston Marathon. With dedication like that, how could these sweet bunnies not win? more ›

It was only a matter of time before Boston taxi drivers discovered the internet. Now, we've got one blogging in the tradition of Waiter Rant, Clublife, and other vocational blogs. Apparently started in January, Boston-The Hack writes about the trials of driving cab in a city, from the one-way streets of the Financial District to the strongly-scented vomit of customers (not always on Lansdowne Street, surprisingly) to trying to understand the dispatchers. And that's not including obtaining certification, dealing with asshole cab company owners, and paying taxes on your nominal income. more ›

BusJunction is a new service that allows you to search a variety of bus services to find the best price for a ticket down south. Currently, you can only find fares from Boston to Hartford (who goes there?) or New York (Chinatown, Penn Station, or the Port Authority). The service, established in DC, searches fares from Megabus, Bolt, Vamoose, DC2NY, Greyhound, Trailways, Peter Pa, Lakefront, Fung Wah, Lucky Star, Eastern Travel, and New Century. In our search for a ticket to New York, the cheapest one-way option was Megabus at $9, followed closely by Lucky Star or Bolt for $10. There doesn't seem to be a round trip function yet, but we look forward to seeing what the site comes up with. more ›

“How do you tell what’s going on in a city?” asked Assaf Biderman, associate director of MIT’s SENSEable City Lab. “You can wire every piece of pavement, but it’s not very sustainable, it’s not scalable, it’s expensive. We’re partnering with infrastructure managers, trying to get information from them that we can process and use. The information they collect from managing their own network can be used to figure out what’s going on in the space.” more ›

Our friends at Unlikely Words have covered Peeps on the internet; now, we want you to cover Peeps in Boston. Bostonist is sponsoring a Peeps photo contest: photograph your favorite Peep in your favorite Boston setting. Whether you put a Peep chick in line behind Pack, add a tulip Peep to the Public Garden, hide Peep eggs along the Freedom Trail, bring Peeps Joy to Joy Street, or set a flock of Peep bunnies free at Harvard Business School, we want to see pictures! You can get creative with costumes, as in this Peeps Diorama Contest, or work with nude Peeps models. more ›

Unofficial surveys have found that, relative to other regions of the country, New Englanders disproportionately hate the tomato. Some unnamed tomato experts conjecture this culinary aversion may exist because many folks in this region have never tasted a tomato as they are meant to be. In this area's short growing season, many New Englanders only sample tomatoes that have been refrigerated. This cooling process crystalizes the sugars in the tomato, and severely compromises the flavorful bursts that once were. Tomatoes taste best when they've never been kept below 60 degrees, and fresh off the vine.

A coworker told us WROR was playing The Beatles all morning, so we tuned in. John, Paul, George, and Ringo play on past noon. It's all Beatles until midnight. It's okay to turn off the iPod for a while. (You can try streaming it here.)
