LAist rocked out hard at the Vans Warped Tour to a lineup of "new-age punkers."
Miscellaneous: August 2009 Archives
Between Tropical Storm Danny and the rash of street closures for Ted Kennedy's funeral, many of them clustered around the student-heavy neighborhood of Mission Hill, this final weekend in August might be the worst move-in weekend in recent memory. Do you have a move-in horror story? Or some funny photos of your UHaul in traffic? Were you the first student of the year to smash your truck on Storrow Drive? Send us an email at tips@bostonist.com!

Wicked Local Somerville's blog reports that, anecdotally at least, Somerville's parking enforcement has gone all ED 209 on the people of Somerville, spraying them with the parking ticket equivalent of unjustified machine gun bullets. With that in mind, we wonder how the writers at Wicked Local Somerville feels about the prospect of some $500 journalism whore scooping them on the potential parking ticket abuse story.
The path for the motorcade escorting Senator Kennedy’s body was recently announced. Starting in Hyannisport, it will proceed north into Boston and drive past places significant in the senator’s and his family’s life: past St. Stephen’s Church and the Rose Kennedy Greenway in the North End, over to the State House, and to then President Kennedy’s former residence on Bowdoin Street and the JFK Federal Building, ultimately arriving at the JFK Library and Museum in Dorchester. more ›

It might mean the end of an era. Bike advocates can come across as pretty self-righteous, especially when somebody suggests that bikers might not be the safest people on the road. Is all of that about to change? In a lengthy blog post, anonymous internet personality Boston Biker concedes a crucial point: "[T]here is no ‘cyclists’ in the same way there is no ‘motorists’ or ‘pedestrians’ there is only individual people who choose to obey or not obey the law (sic)." Does this mean that law-abiding cyclists are going to stop freaking out every time somebody writes about how badly some cyclists ride? Probably not, but as bikers ourselves, we'd be relieved if bicycle advocates would spend more time doing things like passing bike friendly laws or taking courses in civil engineering and less time whining about the bad rap Boston cyclists rightly or wrongly may or may not have.
Bostonist reader Matthew Fleischer discovered what was either the funniest joke in today's Boston Globe or the Freudianist of slips. On the crossword page. Fleischer writes: "And so it was with great joy today that I stumbled across the work of Leonard Gravis in the Boston Globe['s crossword page]. It only took one clue for Mr. Gravis to reel me in. 'The ___ mightier than the sword.'" Can you fill in the blank? Yes, the answer to clue 69 across was "penis." [True Slant]
Londonist witnessed unecessary tabloid shock at the languages spoken by some of London's children.

Sooo, imagine you're a single dude. You go out on some dates occasionally, but you just haven't met the right lady for you yet. Gee, don't you wish one of your friends would create a website to help you meet women? If you're some dude named Jason, that's exactly what happened to you. And you reacted, appropriately, with "terror" and mortification. But your friend didn't stop at that website. He also got you on Glamour and even into the Globe. All of this, so far, doesn't seem to have gotten you a date. more ›
DCist revisited the saga of Molly, the stolen and ultimately returned local dog, when aggressive animal rights group PETA decided to speak up on the issue of leaving your pets tied up alone on the sidewalk.

Animal New York found a graffiti artist who either can't spell Brooklyn or Brookline, or is perhaps named Brooklin. Any way you slice it, Brooklin is not to be fucked with. One question remains: what's Shepherd Fairey's stance on Brooklin?
