It's the perfect opportunity both for longtime fans to celebrate their idols and for new recruits to be welcomed into the bosom of Python. To the jump!

BostonTV: Gleeful On a Wednesday Night

After months of waiting, tonight's official Glee premiere has the potential to reduce even the most steadfast High School Musical fan to a panting mass of jazz hands.

Comedian Ira Proctor In and Around Boston

A couple months ago we did this little Fenway Park piece with Boston-based comedian Ira Proctor.

Comedian Leo Allen performed on AltCom09's first show last Friday night. Comedian Leo Allen has written for Conan O'Brien, Saturday Night Live, Human Giant, and the Comedians of Comedy. A former resident of the Boston area, Allen put on a great act and we hope to see him again here.

Bostonist Interviews Eugene Mirman

Eugene Mirman is a comedian. He has done several wonderful things. This coming Wednesday—Feb. 25th, for calendar nerds—at 7PM, he will be reading from his new self-help book The Will to Whatevs at the Brookline Booksmith.

Boston TV: Conan, We Hardly Knew Ye

Tonight, after 16 years of invisible string dancing, gargantuan ginger hair, and playing peekboo with the camera, local boy Conan O’Brien takes a final bow before making the westward migration to take over Leno’s “Tonight Show.”

Dane Cook, Conned out of Millions

Dane Cook isn't necessarily one of our favorite comedians. Whether it's commercials, movie posters, comedy contests, or dog poop, we've found more than a few things to pick on him for over the years. Still, we don't completely begrudge the dude his success. If you can find a way to fool people into thinking you're funny, then capitalize on it continually, more power to you—and may your relatives not turn out to be asshats.

Comedian Jamie Sneider grew up in Boston Metro-West before heading to NYU, improv, and comedy writing. She recently relocated to Los Angeles, from where she writes her Reluctantly Moving to LA blog. We talked to Sneider and told her about our ice storms and she remarked that at least LA "has amazingly consistent warm weather, it's weird" but that she hears about the New England weather from her family every time she calls home. Speaking of our recent weather, she would not have been able to shoot a single scene from her 2009 "Year of the Jewish Woman" calendar in the kind of cold and wind that knocked out power for hundred of thousands.

On Monday night at 8:00pm, December 15th, you can see comedian Steven Wright receive the honor of being the first inductee of The Boston Comedy Hall of Fame. The event will take place at Showcase Live at Patriot Place in Foxborough, which is technically not in Boston, so we're hoping for some jokes about that.

We managed to get into one of comedian Jim Gaffigan's score of sold out performances this weekend at the Berklee Performance Center (pictured right, check out the "Sexy Tour" poster they had inside) and we were not disappointed. Perhaps you've seen Gaffigan's various Comedy Central Specials, his CD & DVD of "Beyond the Pale", his myriad late night TV appearances (particularly on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" where he's teamed up to form the animated superhero duo "Pale Force") or his performances on his regular TV gig (My Boys on TBS), but none of those media can equal seeing him perform in person. It's been amazing to watch Berklee add show after show this weekend and they've still completely sold out.

The comedic somnambulist Mike Birbiglia's new DVD came out this week and it's pretty damn good. Hailing from Shrewsbury, Birbiglia is a Comedy Central darling with multiple TV specials and album releases to his credit and the kid ain't even 30 yet. OK, so you somehow can't or won't watch Comedy Central, well then, you've had plenty of opportunity to see Birbiglia performing on every late night show on every network since 2002.

The world is filled with unfunny people. You live with them, work for them, you’re probably dating one. But it’s different when they’re sucking on a small scale. It’s when they suddenly get a wild hair up their ass and decide to take their act on the road with dreams in becoming the next Pryor. The sad thing is, it’s usually the people void of any talent that go further than the ones who do.

Tommy Tiernan hasn't made it to Boston to perform (yet) but the Irish philospher-comedian will be coming to the States this Fall for a much broader tour than his last pass through the continent. Tiernan is eager to make it to Boston, widely considered as "the 33rd county of Ireland" so it's very likely that we'll be seeing him. In the meantime, this week was a very big one for Tiernan who saw a CD and DVD of his Chicago show "Something Mental" released and a Comedy Central special broadcast of "Something Mental" Friday night at 11:00pm - is it all just a St. Patrick's Day coincidence?
