Boston Blotter: Tuxedo Mob Victim Dies

-- The victim of a savage beating that was the alleged work of a group of well dressed men succumbed to his injuries today. The man was found beaten outside of Club 33, in the Back Bay, where an alleged verbal altercation turned into an alleged beating at the hands of 12 men, 9 of whom were wearing matching red tuxedos because they had just been to a funeral. The victim, Jose Alicea, was 22 when he died. The 12 suspects were arraigned today on charges of aggravated assault and battery and held on bail ranging from $100,000 to $200,000. Boston Blotter: Shot in Somerville, Stabbed in the Kitchen

-- A Malden teen was shot during a drive-by in Somerville Friday night. His gunshot wound was minor, and he was released from the hospital a short time after being admitted. No arrests have been made in the case. [Somerville Journal]

-- Cambridge police are alarmed by a recent outbreak of violent crime. In the past week, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the face and chest on Churchill Avenue, and a 22-year-old man was shot in the face at Jackson Circle. Boston Blotter: Bedlam in Mattapan, Elderly-on-Elderly Murder in Dorchester

-- An armed robbery last night in Mattapan turned into a wild chase, complete with flying slugs, courtesy of a pair of plainsclothes policemen who were "fearing for their safety." Nobody was injured during the shooting, and cops eventually caught up with two of the three suspects, who now face multiple charges. [Herald]

Boston Blotter: 15-Year-Old Busted in Roslindale Shooting

-- Boston police nabbed a 15-year-old Hyde Park boy yesterday in connection with Monday night's shooting in Roslindale. The arrest was made based on eye-witness accounts of the crime, and the boy stands charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. [BPDNews]

Boston Blotter: Somerville Stabbing Slay

-- A Cambridge man was charged yesterday in a double stabbing in a La Quinta Inn that left one dead and one seriously injured. Joseph Palmisano, 20, was arrested on homicide and assault charges after he allegedly stabbed 17-year-old Romeo Murray to death and left another man injured. [Herald]

Boston Blotter: Squatter Party in Mattapan

-- Boston police arrested a 19-year-old man in Mattapan early yesterday morning for hosting a party in an apartment building that he falsely claimed he was subletting, according to police. [BPDNews]

-- Three people were shot on a residential street in Mattapan Saturday night. None of the victims' injuries were life threatening, and police have announced no suspects. [Globe]

-- Jason Duran, a 33-year-old from Providence, was shot dead outside a Christmas party in Mattapan early Christmas day. [BPDNews]

The biggest Boston crime story of 2008 might have been the one that got the least media coverage.

-- A 19-year-old man was shot dead last night on Glenway Street in Mattapan. Conflicting witness reports have police looking for a smattering of suspects. No motive has been advanced in the killing. [BPDNews

-- Jamail Hairston, a 24-year-old Dorchester man, was arrested on Saturday in Roxbury for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl. He was arraigned today and held on $250,000 bail. [Globe, Suffolk County D.A.]

-- The Dorchester offices of ACORN, the national political organization, were found ransacked this morning. The offices, which are located on Adams St. in Fields Corner, were looted of three desktop computers as well as other equipment. Employees of the group believe that the burglary might be the result of the national political ire that presidential candidate John McCain has whipped up around ACORN, whom he has accused of possibly "destroying the fabric of our democracy" with its voter registration drives. -- This morning, a 17-year-old was shot outside of the Ashmont MBTA station in Dorchester, which capped a series of three shootings in which five were injured. Police say that this shooting, and the others, was not random. [BPDNews]

-- Early Sunday morning, police arrested a man in connection with a quadruple stabbing in the North End. The four teenage victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. [BPDNews]

-- Two of four men suspected of robbing convenience stores in Jamaica Plain and Hyde Park two weeks ago were apprehended by police. [BPDNews]

-- Two people were found shot early this morning in Mattapan. One of the victims, a 27-year-old male who had been shot in the arm, drove the other, a 28-year-old woman, to Carney Hospital, where she died. No arrests have been made in connection with the incidents. [BPDNews]

-- A man was shot and killed in Mattapan last Thursday night. Police say that Victor Torres, 21, was killed by a single gunshot wound. Torres was not known to police, who are still trying to determine whether he was the intended victim of the gunman. No arrests have been made. The shooting took place blocks away from the residence where five month-year-old Alianna Peguero was shot in an apparently gang-related incident. Universal Hub has a map of shootings that have taken place in the southern Boston neighborhoods since the April 21st killing of Luis Troncoso on a basketball court in Southwest Corridor Park, an incident that sparked Boston's summer of gang beef. -- Fears that gang violence is on the rise in Boston's southern neighborhoods seemed justified as police revealed that Monday's shooting of a five-month-old baby in Mattapan may have been part of a cycle of retaliatory killings between rival Jamaica Plain gangs. Police believe that the shooting, which left Alianna Peguero in the hospital, may have been a retaliation for the April killing of Luis Troncoso on a basketball court in JP. The Troncoso killing, in turn, is said to have been revenge for the death of Peguero's 20-year-old half-brother, Alan Peguero, last September. Police have hit a wall in the investigation, citing the Peguero family's unwillingness to cooperate. Meanwhile, Bostonians wonder when and where the next battle in this gang war will break out. -- A five-month-old baby was shot last night in her father's arms in their Mattapan apartment. Alianna Peguero is in critical condition at Boston Medical Center, and her injuries were severe enough that Boston's homicide squad is investigating the shooting. Her father, Alinson Peguero, 46, was shot in the hand. Police believe that the shooting is part of an ongoing gang dispute that took the life of Alan Peguero, Alianna's half-brother, last September in the family's Dorchester convenience store. The shots came from the balcony of the Pegueros' apartment. Police have not named a suspect. [Globe]

--One person was shot at Ryan Playground in Mattapan yesterday afternoon. The injuries were non-life-threatening, but could the shooters at least keep their beef away from the playground? [Boston Globe]

--So, just how many new construction jobs will the casinos proposed by Governor Deval Patrick create? He said 30,000. An independent analyst says no way: "... building three casinos at a cost of $1 billion each in Massachusetts would create a total of 4,000 to 5,000 new construction jobs for the duration of the building period, probably three years."
