Bostonist went down to one of our favorite haunts to meet up with a couple of friends. You may know some of them; others were in from out of town. We got the announcement then that within 24 hours there would be at least one Somerville apartment whose living room would contain a stack of Somerville Madonna 2007 Calendars ready for delivery. Yeah, you read right. Somerville Madonna Calendars - and postcards, greeting cards, and magnets. All of it just in time for all your Christmas gifting needs.
Bostonist's Editor at Large Josh Michtom has been on a quest (mostly mounted on his fixie, armed with a digital camera) to photograph every Madonna and other religious statue in the City of Somerville. He admits that his quest is not complete – but a set of 234 can be found on Flickr as of mid-November. The set includes the traditional, the tub-less, Madonna-less tubs, sneaky backyard shots, even a Jesus or eight. The Somerville Madonna project continues, pictures are added to the photo set as soon as another neighborhood's lawn adornments are searched. Hop on over to his newly launched website at somervillemadonnas.com (surprise!) to grab some the Madonna Project merch for yourself, take in the back story, or gander and the uploaded pics. There's a discount and direct purchase on calendars right now (act fast!) – with personal delivery offered by the photog himself (likely in a messenger bag, on his bicycle) for residents of Somerville.
