Pats Preview on January 17, 2007

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! A familiar foe in a familiar venue with the stakes as high as it gets. The winner of Pats v. Colts goes to Miami for a shot at the Super Bowl. It doesn't get much better than this. What does our beloved home squad, the New England Patriots, need to do in order to win this game? Indy came into New England (pre-FieldTurf, mind you) and took New England to task 27-20 on November...... [continue]

OK, OK, Bostonist feels a lot better about the Old Towne team, and not just because of a man whom will be known in these parts for a time to come (and maybe longer?), as Dise-K. (And please, don’t' go with D-Mat. Sounds like doormat, and who wants to be named after something that one would use to wipe off their dirty shoes. Wouldn't you want to be named after a nasty, distasteful, comic that...... [continue]

Dise-K On the WAY! on December 13, 2006

Boston.com is reporting that Dise-K is on a plane with Red Sox brass John Henry and Theo Epstein heading to Boston, for what most believe would be his physical. A source close to the negotiations is reporting that “You can assume that a deal is done or close."...... [continue]

Sporting News on December 13, 2006

OK, so maybe that 4th Super Bowl is a bit further away than Bostonist originally thought. The Pats were, sad to say, trounced by division rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday, 21-0. This one was ugly folks, from the jump. Alas, Bostonist should have had a bit of a clue that this could be coming, with Tommy's record down in Miami (a place he is under .500, 2-4 career) and the injuries the Pats were...... [continue]

Save Manny - Hot Stove Musings on December 5, 2006

www.keepmanny.com. That says it all. Trading him is ludicrous. There is no one to replace him, and it essentially marginalizes David Ortiz. These right-handed world class hitters don't grow on trees, and J.D. "Injury" Drew isn't exactly Manny Ramirez. Actually, according to Elias Sports Bureau, he is a lot like Trot Nixon, numbers wise... hmmm.. doesn't Trot at 5, 6 mil make a lot more sense (platooning with Wily Mo) then 15 Mil per for... [continue]

What a game last weekend, the Pats and Bears. Excitement, defense, hard hitting, and even some of the usual drama added by the NFL Zebras (are they serious with those Pass Interference calls? Were they watching the same game? Bostonist is in agreement with Troy Aikman; its time to make Pass Interference a reviewable offense). But, last night's game was proof that Defensive games can be fun. Here's hoping the boys over at Elias Sports...... [continue]

Sox Thoughts on November 14, 2006

Believe it or not, its hot stove time, and that means time to start talking about the 2007 iteration of the Olde Towne Team. Ok, first off, let's get this straight... the Sox are paying the Japanese team the Seibu Lions upwards of 50 million dollars for the exclusive right to NEGOTIATE with Japanese fireballer and WBC MVP Daisuke Matsuzaka? So, assuming he gets Josh Beckett money (and, hopefully pitches better than Beckett), we... [continue]

Patriots Rumblings on November 14, 2006

The Pats flubbed another one this weekend in the Bostonist satellite office down in Foxboro, to the hated Jets of all teams, 17-14. This one was a mud bowl, and one would think that would benefit the home team, seeing they have control over their field. But, not this time around. And speaking of field conditions, can anyone respond and tell Bostonist why in the world the field at Gillette Stadium looked more like...... [continue]

Couple thoughts and musings while lamenting a loss to the New England Patriots biggest rivals, and wondering why in 'tarnation did the Pats stop running the ball in the second half of the Indy game.... The Pats are 6-2 and in great shape in the AFC East. Yes, now we will have to head to Indy to get to the Super Bowl, but as all Bostonists are stating, Tom Brady is 10-0 in domes....... [continue]

Minnesota Massacre on October 31, 2006

The Patriots proved to a national audience Monday evening that this team is for real, and in all likelihood will be playing playoff games in January, and maybe one in February... (crossing fingers, dodging lightning bolts, knocking on wood) New England utterly dominated the Minnesota Vikings (who were billed as the "Denver Broncos of the NFC", who handed the Pats their lone defeat of the season) 31-7 last night, a few miles from the...... Pats Press On, Sharp After Bye on October 23, 2006

After what seemed like a 3 month lay-off, the Patriots were back in action Sunday afternoon, this time facing rival Buffalo in up-state New York to kick around the Bills, 28-6. The Patriots showed no signs of rust on Sunday, coming off their bye week, as they took it to the hometown Bills in front of their home crowd right from the starting gun. The Pats jumped out to an early lead by scoring...... [continue]

Patriots Party on October 10, 2006

The Pats took one with ease on Sunday, defeating division rival Miami Dolphins by a score of 20-10 at sold out Gillette stadium. The boys at the Bostonist satellite office in Foxboro have now defeated all three of their divisional foes, posting an early 3-0 record in the division, which is critical down the line for playoff scenarios. This contest took an interesting turn late in the week, as the Patriots were planning to... [continue]

The rumors of the death of the Patriots have been greatly exaggerated. That paraphrase couldn’t be more true to Bostonians after the Pats dismantled the Cincinnati Bengals 38-13, in Cincy (they did not PROTECT THEIR HOUSE; that Under Armour guy would be heated with them), no less. While this space tends to focus mostly on Touchdown Tommy Brady (and has received heat for so doing), this week, rookie running back Laurence Maroney stole the... [continue]

Pats Problems, Brady Bummin' on September 28, 2006

Touchdown Tommy is not happy. And how can Boston blame him? He took less money to stay in New England with the belief that the regime would continue to spend, and put a competitive product on the field. Instead, the Pats are almost 17 million under the cap. Conspiracy Theory: Was it a coincidence Brady forced the ball downfield 12+ times against the Denver secondary (which is quite good), and completed zero passes? Was...... [continue]

Brady Bunk, Patriots Putrid on September 25, 2006

The New England Patriots had it taken to them last night at the Razor, yet again, by an old nemesis, the Denver Broncos, by a score of 17-7. While the score looks small, this one was never really in much doubt once the Broncos took a 10-0 lead, and kicker Stephen Gostkowski had his second field goal blocked in as many weeks, late in the second quarter. While Brady's numbers were gaudy, his overall... [continue]

No Branch, No Problem - Sort Of. on September 18, 2006

Early in the third quarter, this one looked like it was about to get really ugly, as the Pats had jumped out to what looked like an insurmountable 24-0 lead over the Jets at the Meadowlands in New Jersey last night. But the Jets made it more than a game, but in the end, Tom Brady and the Patriots were up to the task, winning their 7th consecutive game against the hated Jets. This...... [continue]

Deion Gone on September 11, 2006

ESPN.com, Boston.com, et al are reporting that Wide Receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for Seattle's 1st round draft pick in 2007. Branch had been a holdout through all of Patriots training camp, up until and including yesterday's 19-17 victory. While the Deion Branch mess has finally been cleared up, Bostonist isn't sure that this has improved the Patriots for the 2006 battle. The Pats... [continue]

Pats Squeak by Bills on September 11, 2006

On Sunday afternoon, things didn't start spectacularly for the New England Patriots, but they sure did end that way. The Pats prevailed in Foxboro yesterday in front of a full house at Gillette Stadium by the score of 19-17. The Pats season started in what looked to be a disastrous manner. The season's first play for the Pats was not what Pats fans had envisioned for the inaugural play of the 2006 campaign. On...... [continue]

Deep Red Sox Thoughts on September 6, 2006

This space has been quiet on the Red Sox front during their August swoon, but Bostonist is back in full force. While lamenting the last 2 wins against the defending World Champion Chicago White Sox, a few thoughts are on Bostonist’s brain. Kevin “Town Crier” Youkilis. Geesh, just another guy who doesn’t get it. Earlier in the year Kevin was quoted saying “every game is game 7 of the World Series, every night.” How...... [continue]

Sports Tidbits on June 27, 2006

Props go out to Terry Francona (a man who really doesn't receive enough credit for the job he does in Boston) for his handling of the Coco Crisp situation. Crisp returned, and was immediately re-inserted into the starting lineup as the center-fielder, and lead-off hitter. But, it looks like 7th or 8 slot is most effective, with Youkilis at the top, and Francona has leveraged this. The Sox also have some interesting options from...... [continue]
