It's HT, kid! If you're going to be near Fenway this week for the beginning of this year's fever pitch, be sure to grab a copy of the Boston Fire Mixtape CD by the Head Turners from one of the Sully's Tees hawkers. Guest appearances by Sean Price (Heltah Skeltah), Mike Mongo (18-year-old rap phenom... [continue]

Stop Snitchin' on August 22, 2005

Baltimore's "Stop Snitchin!" franchise has been making waves here in the Bay State. In the Herald's editorials today is a story about the shirts being sold in New Bedford and worn to a highly-publicized murder trial in Boston last year. The Herald also reports about a mysterious business card dropper advertising contract hits on "filthy rats." The editorial supports tougher penalties for witness intimidation. Apparently, the motivation behind "Stop Snitchin" is to dissuade people... [continue]

Mash Ave Fridays on July 29, 2005

Tonight at The Independent in Somerville (detecting a theme?), Mash Ave presents Jadmix (Ireland). This postman-by-day travels all the way from the Emerald Isle to deliver mashups through rain, sleet or snow. Jadmix has mashed up some raps by Dr. Dre and Grandmaster Flash with funky instrumentals. While you're on the bad side of the river, Bostonist always recommends a pit-stop at Red Bones BBQ. Ain't nothing wrong with cornbread.... [continue]

Geezer Grifting on July 11, 2005

The Globe reports that a pair of 77-year-old hustlers took Marshalls for over $16,000 in a classic scam. On 80 separate occassion they would buy expensive and cheap suits, switch the tags on them and return the cheap ones. The duo pleaded innocent on Friday to felony larceny and false pretense in a consumer transaction. Even though these seniors spread out their operation among stores in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, it shows how easily...... [continue]

Review: Game On! on April 29, 2005

On the corner of Brookline Ave and Landsdowne is Patrick Lyon's new multi-million dollar monolith. Game On! opened a couple weeks ago and Bostonist was there after spending the morning in the ER. The line was down the street, yet there were more employees inside than patrons. The first floor is a spacious and tasteful room with a large bar and restaurant feel. When you descend the stairs into the basement and pass the... [continue]
