Someone has really had it with the snow. An Abington man who was making bombs he intended to use to blow up snow banks has been charged with threatening to commit a crime and possession of incendiary devices. Police and fire officials recovered ammunition and "powders" from his last known address. Abington Police Chief David Majenski said police found "military-grade ammunition and other stuff." -- Police seized almost a half-ton of marijuana worth over $1 million in Abington. Police said the shipment came from southern California and the marijuana may have come from Mexico. Police dogs were used in the bust as the marijuana was wrapped in shrink wrap, newspapers soaked in fabric softener and other layers. Remember Rhys Williams, the inebriated Boston EMT on injured leave who allegedly shot the brothers of his deceased former partner after attending a benefit for the deceased former partner and then treated the men he just shot? There may be more to it. One of the victims, along with his wife, was arrested in April after a fight in the South End. Attorney Peter Horstmann, who represents Williams in the shooting on Sunday, alleged April's incident could be a factor in the Abington incident. All charges alleged until proven under law. more ›

-- Christine A. McCallum, an fifth grade teacher at Woodsdale Elementary School in Abington, pleaded not guilty to charges that she raped a 13-year-old boy. Authorities claim that McCallum had acted as the victim's surrogate mother, a relationship that eventually progressed to a sexual affair. McCallum, who is married, had been the teacher of the boy's brother before the alleged affair began. She stands accused on three counts of rape. [Globe] more ›

-- An 88-year-old woman was assaulted in her Hyde Park home early this morning, Boston police say. Around 4 a.m., an intruder allegedly attacked the victim and fled. No signs of forced entry were reported and nothing was reported stolen. The victim may have been sexually assaulted, and police from the sexual assault unit are also investigating.
