In a sense, it's comforting. The Celtics went to battle against one of the other good Eastern teams without Kevin Garnett, and almost beat 'em. On the day of the C's' long-awaited return to national afternoon TV, the script ran eerily similar to the first game in Orlando; the Magic jumped out to a big lead, the Celtics clawed their way back, but ran out of gas at the end. Orlando's the only team to get a 14-point lead on the Green all year, and they've done it twice. more ›

Today's Redux is going to be short and sweet - let's face it, there isn't a whole lot of good news to report from the first in the Red Sox three-game visit to Detroit. Friday night was just plain ugly, a 9-2 loss to the Tigers that served as the proverbial "other shoe" from Thursday's Devil Rays slaughter. After tearing up Fenway the night before, it seemed the Sox had nothing left to start off... more ›

Living in the Bay State we remember when we had a brand-new ruling from the Supreme Judicial Court legalizing same-sex marriage. It seemed to be one of those high court rulings that didn't really make it legal (because, you know, it's the judicial branch, not the legislative) but rather defined was something was or wasn’t. Last week the Worcester Superior Court ruled on something not quite as groundbreaking and offered up a definition. A burrito is not a sandwich. more ›

When the Boston Chowhound board starts mooning over a restaurant two months prior to its opening, there's a pretty safe bet something special's a'brewin'. In this case, the "something" was Chris Schlessinger (East Coast Grill, formerly of Blue Room), and the "special" was his newest venture, the All-Star Sandwich Bar, a small yet breathable joint that embraces a wide variety of meat-on-bread and eschews the trendy wrap without compunction. more ›

After Wired ran a story documenting the GoogleCenter of the United States a bunch of ists jumped on the opportunity to figure out their own middle. Gothamist, Chicagoist, Bostonist and Seattlest all zoomed in on their creamy GoogleCenters. A crack cartography team is hard at work determining the GoogleCenter of the Ist-a-verse as you read this... Austinist read a book about Olympian Bode Miller and liked it. They also took a few pictures of the... more ›

Weather forecasts indicate that the beautiful weather we’ve had for the last two days is about to get a little soggy. High humidity will thicken the air today and might be cause for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. Bostonist is sure to be watching the hazecam to check out how visibly hazy, hot, and humid it is outside as we sit in the comfort of an air conditioned office. This afternoon, besides the thunderstorms, Bostonist... more ›

As this is written the Red Sox are sitting in their clubhouse getting ready for one more home series until they jump on the road for a swing through Texas and Baltimore before the All-Star break hits. This weekend's series brings the Blue Birds from Toronto into town, no doubt hoping they can give the Red Sox more trouble than they really should. This year's Blue Jays are to the Sox what the Orioles were last year - a giant unexpected pain in the ass. Who ARE these people? Sure, Roy Halladay - All Star. Whatever. Gabe Gross? Reed Johnson? Eric Hinske? And there will be no discussing this guy. "High Profile" left town with Carlos Delgado but, as stated, it certainly hasn't stopped the Jays from giving the Sox a hard time. Therefore, tonight's game at Fenway will help everyone in seeing if this year's Bluejays are as troublesome as they were at the beginning of the season. With "Honest Abe" Clement on the hill Red Sox nation can keep it cool and expect the series to start off with the W under the Good Guys' column. more ›
