We hope you'll forgive us the crazy analogy, but we sort of felt that Animal Collective's show at the House of Blues on Thursday night was a metaphor for evolution. From the primordial ooze of muddled bass to animalistic screeching vocals to, finally, electro-finessed melodies, AC created an evening that reflected our own development over time—good aspects and bad.

Animal Collective, every hipster's favorite eclectic collective of animals (well, one animal; several other things) and freak-folk noise, will play at the House of Blues tonight, in a sign that they have completely sold out. However, our devotion to "The Purple Bottle" will motivate us to stand in line for hours with other Panda and Grouper (the opener, not a collective member) in hopes of someday hearing the band. Maybe we'll get in next week? Assuming we're able to access the "noise pop" (as opposed to silence pop, of course) show, we'll have a review tomorrow.
Illinois is getting pretty comfortable in Boston. Last Thursday at Great Scott marked the band's fifth Boston show in as many months, with one more to come in April. Illinois took the stage after Magic Magic, and proceeded to destroy.

Also, since you (and Target) love The Hold Steady, may Bostonist make a gentle reminder to pick up tickets to their upcoming September TT's show? Question: are The Hold Steady the rockingest band fronted by a BC grad? Answer: Bostonist doesn't know, but Bostonist does know that you can go to TT's after 6 and pick up tickets without a service charge, and you should go there soon to get your Hold Steady tickets and (since you love hype) your Clap Your Hands Say Yeah tickets. (Bostonist still can't believe that the latter was confused with Get Him Eat Him in an earlier post, but then again, there's really a spate of mono-syllabic bands ordering you to do stuff right now.) Do it before the students come back, with their disposable income et al.
With a three day weekend on tap, Bostonist took a minute to give out the choicest selections (and some free tickets!!). So after enjoying the weather all day, there will be no reason to stay in at night. If your planning to drink yourself into oblivion on Monday, Bostonist salutes you.
