Bostonist was permitted to set foot in Boylston Street's gleaming ice palace of an Apple Store this morning, in advance of its Friday opening. An Apple spokespersonage gestured and informed us that the store's floor is from Italy and that the store's employees are from the Boston area. (Bostonist recognized and was recognized by a former Diesel barista.) The staircase, we're assuming, is from the future. Mayor Menino blessed the whole endeavor and laid hands on a MacBook.

The Holiday season is in full swing in NYC, with holiday lights in Brooklyn, a giant snow globe in Bryant Park and Chanukah specials for ham. One citizen decided to go vigilante on annoying car alarms, a murder suspect used a fake Asian accent on the stand and a video of a man being beaten up by teenage girls on a subway shocked the city. And we interviewed soon-to-be-leaving-Gawker editor Choire Sicha, who said,...

Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico. Bostonist was happy they finally found an Anna Nicole Smith connection to their fair city and that an Apple Store was opening up. They were less happy that new rules have been established limiting underage shows and that their Governor is spending...

No, it's not actually Mary Anne digging the new Apple Store in Back Bay. It's unlikely that there will be a steam shovel converted to a boiler heating the new Apple venue on Boylston St, but it would make a great tale. Tech Superpowers has a web cam set up backing up to the 815 Boylston property that will open as the new glass encased Apple Store this fall, from which you can watch...

The Boston Redevelopment Authority has finally approved the construction of a new Apple store on Boylston Street in Back Bay, which could be done as early as December 2007. Not only will you be able to wait in frustration for hours at the "Genius Bar", but you'll be able to join the scads of Bostonians you try to avoid in said line. Sweet. Admittedly, the building (a giant glass cube) is alluring. Moreso, though,...

The Boston Globe had a little sidebar note in the morning paper today that the revised, now three instead of the initial four floors, Apple Store plans for the 815 Boylston St. address had been approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Apple still has to go through the process of applying for the necessary demolition and building permits to turn the building into the three story glass façade building it is currently planning. This...

While waiting in the bathroom line at the Diesel, Bostonist caught zombie overlord Alli Auldridge putting up a poster for Zombie March 2006. When cornered, Ms. Auldridge revealed her plans: on Saturday, April 29th, the local undead will walk from Davis Square to Harvard Square in search of a decent brain to eat. How long do you expect Zombie March 2006 to last? Are we talking about traditional, slowly-lurching Dawn of the Dead zombies,...

Earlier this week, Bostonist was busy using up some Best Buy gift cards at the Cambridgeside Galleria. There was a noticeable lack of activity on a Tuesday evening, just after dinnertime. Wandering through the empty rows of stores we wondered what might be the fate of the large Filene’s that occupies the space – will Cambridgeside see the transition to Macy’s, Bloomies? We thought for a second on the question and then just went to...

Ever been flipping thru the channels and come across a bossy blond woman on MSNBC, preaching about paying off a credit card ? Well, if you have, then you must be familiar with money-guru Suze Orman, who makes a living discussing and writing about getting out of debt and staying out of it. Bostonist has always found her tips intriguing but never worried about financial planning until her recent book was released: "The Money Book...
