The Dorchester man who was driving the van filed with special-needs adults that crashed into a Waste Management Services truck in Newton yesterday will be charged with driving under the influence of drugs. Addis Gabriel Woldeguiorguis, 51, reportedly took oxycodone before driving the van. Woldeguiorguis also has an extensive list of violations - drug possession and speeding, and others - in his RMV record over the past decade in New York and only got a Massachusetts driver’s license on July 26. Van drivers must undergo a CORI check every year. All 12 passengers were hospitalized, nine at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and three at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Two remain at Beth Israel and one at Newton-Wellesley. Media reports placed bail at $5,000 or $15,000. Woldeguiorguis drove for AART Transportation of Chestnut Hill. Michael Todd, the 28-year old bass player for the band Coheed and Cambria, reportedly confessed to robbing a Walgreens Pharmacy shortly before the band was set to open for Soundgarden at the Comcast Center in Mansfield on Sunday. Todd's bail was set at $25,000 cash and the band will continue to tour without him. Todd showed a pharmacist a message on his Blackberry saying he had a bomb and demanded pain pills. He took six bottles of oxycodone and fled in a taxi to his band's tour bus in Mansfield. Attleboro police contacted Mansfield Police with a description of the taxi and Todd based on witnesses and surveillance video. Todd denied he was involved until he was shown pictures. Todd has a prior record. He pleaded not guilty to armed robbery and possession of a class B substance. His next court date is August 9. [Globe]
The four-year old boy shot at Harambee Park in Dorchester on Monday night was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang-related shooting, police said. There were reports of multiple gunshots fired before several young men were seen fleeing towards Blue Hill Avenue. This contradicts initial police reports of shooters on motorbikes. Three men tried to steal some dough from a Dunkin' Donuts in Hyannis on Wednesday night and ended up with a bag of donuts. The masked men were armed with two knives and a hatchet and struck after closing and behind the restaurant. Police said the suspects believed one employee was carrying money in a donut bag and never checked after taking the bag and fleeing. Police used video surveillance and witness reports to track the men. The three suspects may be linked to two similar robberies last week at Domino's Pizza and Blanchard's liquors. The men will be charged with armed robbery while masked for the Dunkin' Donuts job, and possibly the other robberies.
Police in Massachusetts and Colombia arrested 20 people today, and law enforcement around the world seized $200 million, 1,100 kilograms of cocaine, and 46 kilograms of heroin in the culmination of a four-year drug money laundering probe. Each suspect will be tried in Boston for alleged laundering of drug money in New England. "Operation Fire and Ice" was led by the US Drug Enforcement Administration and was based on the undercover work of a Massachusetts State trooper. Law enforcement from Colombia and Italy were at today's press conference in Boston to announce the bust. People seized bank accounts and $2 million in cash from Massachusetts residents. We'll call it a quirky criminal coincidence: Three Massachusetts' Dunkin' Donuts, in Hingham, Norwood and Raynham, were robbed since Thursday.
Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said three men were indicted for their roles in the December armed robbery of Kohl’s department store in Woburn that led to the murder of police officer Jack Maguire. Arthur Cinelli, 50, of Newburyport is charged with conspiracy to commit masked armed robbery and accessory before the fact to masked armed robbery, Scott Hanright, 19, of Wakefield faces murder, masked armed robbery, firearm violations and other charges, and Kevin Dingwell, 51, of Wakefield was indicted on charges of being accessory after the fact of robbery and willfully misleading a police officer. State police arrested 51-year-old Nicolas Cauchy of Cambridge and charged him with making a false bomb threat and disorderly conduct after he allegedly claimed to have a bomb in his car. Cauchy ade this claim during a routine security check in a Logan Airport garage on Friday afternoon. Police checked Cauchy’s 2001 Dodge Dakota and confirmed it was a hoax.[MyFoxBoston.com]
Lawrence police arrested two men who staged a five-hour standoff after allegedly robbing a liquor store, attempting to flee, and taking hostages. Police responded to McCann’s Liquors on South Union Street around noon on Sunday after a 911 call reported seeing people running from the store. Seeing police, SWAT, and K-9 officers, the suspects tried to flee but were blocked by a locked gate and returned to the store. They ended up in a crawlspace where police captured them, money, possibly stolen from the store, and guns. Four customers were trapped in the store for hours. Store owner Arturo Taveras, 67, suffered head injuries, and needed 37 stitches, after he was hit in the head with a gun. An assembled crowd cheered as the suspects were led away by police. Police are looking for Luis Guaman, 33, in connection with the death of a Brockon mother and her son. Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela, of Brockton, and her two-year old son Brian were found dead in a dumpster on Sunday. Authorities believe he fled to Ecuador. Guaman has multiple aliases and pending warrants. The Wall St. Journal referred to Guaman as an "illegal immigrant."[Brockton Enterprise]
Kevin Louis was found not guilty of murdering a teenager from Hyde Park on July 4th. He didn't shoot victim Roniel Marc but was charged with murder under the "joint venture" doctrine. Louis was convicted on multiple weapons charges. Sentencing is set for Thursday. [UniversalHub]
Three men, one armed, allegedly robbed a D'Angelo's sandwich shop on Route 28 in Randolph and were arrested after fleeing the scene. Police found the suspects in a car less a a quarter mile away from the scene and the men were changing from clothes that matched the robbers clothes. Police found three blue sweatshirts, a black bag with money, a ski mask, plastic flex cuffs, and a BB gun. They were arrested and charged then with armed robbery. A 37-year old Norwell woman faces her third drunk driving offense after being arrested on Saturday. Police stopped her and reported she smelled of alcohol, wasn't wearing pants and had her four-month-old baby in the car. Police recovered multiple containers of alcohol from the car. A 42-year old Waltham man is being held without bail after allegedly attacking his father with an ax. He was arraigned in Waltham District Court for attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, mayhem, violation of an abuse prevention order, failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. For the second time in a few days, an armed robbery took place around the Harvard campus on Saturday. A Cambridge man allegedly attempted to rob three Harvard freshmen at gunpoint and then shot at a Cambridge Police officer. The suspect faces armed robbery and assault with intent to murder charges for allegedly stealing wallets, credit cards and cell phones from the students. As police chased the suspect, he fired his gun and eventually fell down a set of stairs before being arrested. On Thursday, a man was mugged in Harvard Yard. [Globe]

-- Joseph Joyce, a 27-year-old Scituate man, turned himself in to face an indecent assault and battery charge at Cambridge District Court in Medford after allegedly pulled down a 16-year old girl's shirt at the Kendall Square station. Joyce also allegedly assaulted a woman in Cohasset on July 4. The Cohasset woman called police after seeing Joyce's photo from the Red line incident.
Also, Donald Kalil, a Level 3 sex offender, pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and failure to register as a sex offender on Thursday after allegedly pulling women's shirts and trying to grope them. [Globe]
-- A 47-year old South Boston man was arrested and charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography after allegedly compiling among the largest collections of child pornography in the world. Police found 16,000 child porn files on the suspect's computers. Assistant Attorney General Christopher Kelly said the suspect confessed despite pleading not guilty on both charges. His adult criminal record allegedly includes 55 entries. The defense attorney said the suspect blamed "pop-ups" for the pornography. on his record, Kelly said. He added Shipps spent time in jail in 1990 and 1994. Among the charges on his adult record are assault and assault and battery on a police officer, Kelly said.
