Manny Ramirez was released from jail on a $2,500 bond after he was arrested on Monday for allegedly hitting his wife. He was charged with misdemeanor battery in the first degree after his wife said Ramirez "struck her in the left side of the face with an open hand causing her to hit her head against the headboard of the bed." Ramirez said he grabbed his wife by the shoulders and when he shook her her head hit the headboard. TMZ has posted the 911 call Juliana Ramirez made to report the incident. It's remarkably calm. Police arrested 34-year-old Aparicio Velencia De La Cruz in connection with the deaths of 25-year-old Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela and her 2-year-old son Brian Palaguachi. De La Cruz lives in the same building as the victims will be arraigned Wednesday in Brockton District Court on a charge of misleading police. The charges against Henry Louis Gates Jr. will be dropped. Gates, the director of Harvard University's W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research, was arrested at his Cambridge home on Thursday. The Cambridge Chronicle recapped the media attention the arrest got. Controversial street artist Shepard Fairey may have been a notorious no-show at his own party last night at the ICA (he was busy getting arrested outside his hotel) but that didn't stop the already-assembled Friday night crowd from blissfully grinding the night away. DJ Z-Trip came to the revelers' rescue by spinning in Fairey's place, continuing what was supposed to be an opening set well into the wee hours. The crowd was a mix of street art devotees and hipsters looking to scope out the "Yes We Can!" singles scene. Fairey was indeed missed, but the revelers who packed into the sold-out the OBEY Experiment event didn't let a little Bo-Po busting bring them down. Below, the photographic proof.
