We wish we could tell you about Ashlee Simpson's appearance at Gypsy Bar on Friday night. We'd love to report on what she was wearing, if she was pleasant, or if she said anything to the audience of Boston club-goers packed into a glassed-in section of Gypsy's VIP area.

Get ready, here comes Bostonist's first installment of "Upcoming Music Events and Concerts" (catchier title to be determined at a later date.)
Mention “music festival” this weekend and the hipster friends may immediately presume you’re talking about Austin City Limits. Out hipster them and clarify that Boston, in fact, has its own music festival in the brew this weekend: N.E.S.T. (North East Sticks Together). A series of 30+ (mostly music related) events at 6 venues over 7 days, N.E.S.T. spans all genres, deeming itself “a solid cross sampling of local artists.” Though N.E.S.T. claims that it isn't a music festival, it more or less is. Four friends got together, made some calls and made it happen. The Boston Phoenix added a sponsorship and thus, we arrive at a week of DIY musical merriment. Bostonist, admittedly, knows very little of the bands slated to play; fortunately, both the Phoenix and N.E.S.T. mastermind Dan have put together solid recommendations. Check out the N.E.S.T. website for the full line up and venue details; N.E.S.T. runs September 18 - 24.
In one of Bostonists favorite traditions the Governors have placed their Superbowl bets. Gov. Mitt Romney and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell finalized their deal today. They’re singing. The Governor of the loosing team’s state will go to an NBA game between the Celtics and the Sixers in the winning team’s state, don a jersey of that team and sing the National Anthem to kick off the game. Usually involving a bet of seafood from Massachusetts this bet is a little bit more creative than the norm, though we’re afraid it might displace an Ashlee Simpson appearance. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for Celtics fans Rendell will not actually be singing—he’ll send his wife. Rendell’s wife Midge, who is a classically trained opera singer and a federal judge will sing in her husband’s stead after the Patriots win a week from Sunday. Anyone know if Romney spent any time with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?
