One indisputable truth is that parking is a contentious issue in this town. (Last winter, Bostonist's car was keyed when we parked in a spot around the block from our house with no lawn chair in it (and this was after we graciously dug out three spots on our corner and reserved none of them!). Even commenting on parking has brought the wrath of other bloggers upon Bostonist's head.) Another truism is that whatever the city does, South Boston residents will not be happy about it. As the Globe gently says, Southie "zealously guards its independence and consistently resents the involvement of city government." So expect some tense resident vs. tow-truck battles in the months to come now that Southie is getting resident parking restrictions. more ›

Elitist liberal that we are, Bostonist likes foreign movies (or "films," as one ought refer to such artsy fare). Sure, there are plenty of bad ones, as anyone who has watched Telemundo on a weekend afternoon knows, but for some reason, the ones that find their way to US theaters tend to be a little better than average. That goes double for films shown at the library, so we are very excited about the ongoing Iberoamerican Film Festival at the BPL. The festival, which began Tuesday and runs to the end of August, features movies from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries every Tuesday and Wednesday evening in the Boston Public Library's air-conditioned Rabb Hall. more ›

Everyone has mornings, from time to time, when it is all we can do to line up the buttons on our shirt and get out the door. (This dreary morning was such an occasion in Bostonist's case, owing to Baby Bostonist's having been awake and crying all night with teething pains.) These are the mornings when breakfast and coffee are neglected at home and become imperative once we have reached the office. And it is at these times that Bostonist turns to the Hungry Traveler, a tiny beacon of low-brow breakfast salvation off Court Street downtown. more ›
