FNX has been on a roll lately, hosting two of the biggest indie bands on the scene right now, Band of Horses and Vampire Weekend. Both bands have a reputation for appealing to a hipster crowd, and while tight jeans, ironic T-shirts, and beards (oh-so many beards) were indeed prevalent at both shows, the main focus has been on the unique sound of both acts. Band of Horses was one of the recently affected......

Chinese New Year Harvard Square is celebrating the Year of the Rat with a Lion Dance Parade. Perhaps even more meaningful for some Cambridge residents, the Hong Kong (yay scorpion bowl!) is holding an open house in honor of its 54th anniversary. But be aware that they are having a craft party, not a scorpion bowl party. 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, free. Art Instruction You've seen the MFA's British Prints show, and you......

From Red Sox Monster, Bostonist hears that New York Giants fans have descended to pathetic levels in an attempt to boost their team's self-confidence. A radio station is distributing masks of Brady's ex and babymomma, Bridget Moynahan, in the hopes of distracting the quarterback to the Super Bowl. Obviously, the station cooked up this idea before word got out that Brady was walking around with a cast on his foot. And, besides, if they wanted......

Music Rodfest is held each year to support the Greg "Rodney" Moynahan Memorial Scholarship. Moynahan, a musician who used to host "Rodfests" to celebrate his birthday, died in a car crash in 2004. Kier Byrnes, Moynahan's cousin and a member of Three Day Threshold, has continued the "Rodfest" tradition, and the money goes to Moynahan's alma mater, Stonehill College. Bluesman Weepin' Willie Robinson, the man who was rescued from a Jamaica Plain nursing home yesterday, has since died. An earlier report mentioned he went into cardiac arrest, but he was also burned by the fire, which started when he smoked in bed. Weepin' Willie Robinson's life unfolded like a blues song. In an obituary, the Globe noted that he performed with Bonnie Raitt and Steven Tyler, but he was found homeless in 2005. Local......

The Red Sox have been linked time and time again to reality television this season. There was "Sox Appeal," of course, but there were also calls for the jigging Jonathan Papelbon to Riverdance his way onto "Dancing With the Stars" and the segue FOX used last week to link the Boston bullpen band (the Black Pearl) to what looks like a God-awful new series, "The Next Great American Band." Sox bloggers, however, just might be......

The special election to replace Rep. Marty Meehan in the Fifth Congressional District will be tomorrow. The candidates are Democrat Niki Tsongas and Republican Jim Ogonowski. Ogonowski, a former member of the Air Force and National Guard, has been taking the door-to-door approach. The Globe said he planned "more than two dozen appearances" today.......

And the lead is down to seven. The Red Sox have completely stopped getting any value out of the back end of the rotation. Wakefield got slapped around Tuesday, and last night, Julian Tavarez was pitching well until he ran into the Fifth Inning of Doom en route to a 6-5 loss to the lowly-unless-they're-playing-us KC Royals. Bostonist knew that with Wednesday night's Boston Pops EdgeFest finale would come a chance to see local talent (and Bostonist favorites) Mieka Pauley and Chad Perrone, but it wasn't until shortly before we braved the heat en route to Symphony Hall that we discovered that we were in store for another Boston music treat - three-fifths of the Ryan Montbleau Band (guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ryan Montbleau, bassist Matt Gianarros and Laurence Scudder on viola), who closed out......

And we thought the days of musical Red Sox pitchers were over when Bronson Arroyo got traded. It may be one of those instances where giving ink to an item might have the opposite effect than intended. Waiting in the Kendall Station for the next train to take us across the Charles we've heard the echoes of the Kendall Band installation on occasion. It certainly isn't the rule. Mary Timony's brand of lo-fi indie rock is well-suited to today's dreamy pop scene, but the sassy strut takes us back to the 90s/Liz Phair/Save Ferris days - now and then at the same time. For good reason: Timony became a fixture in the blossoming lo-fi scene of that decade gone by. Frontwoman to Boston three-piece Helium, Timony shared a label with Phair, rocked the stage with the guys and became the voice of the......
