Is there anything better than cheap ice cream? Tonight from 5-10 p.m. Baskin-Robbins is selling a 2.5 ounce scoop of ice cream for just $0.31. It's for a good cause, too. Baskin-Robbins is using the fifth annual 31 Cent Scoop Night to honor local firefighters. The company will donate $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the company said. Dunkin' Donuts signed an agreement with Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. to open over 500 restaurants in India in the next 15 years. It's the largest such international agreement in Dunkin' Donuts' history. The first restaurant opens in 2012. According to the Canton-based company, it has about 9,700 restaurants on four continents and will open its 3,000th international location this month. Dunkin' Brands, Inc. also owns Baskin-Robbins and already has 400 shops in India and over 6,400 shops around the world.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals plans to relocate to two new buildings in Boston's Seaport Innovation District in 2013. Massachusetts farmers in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Norfolk and Plymouth counties are eligible for federal relief money.
The gridiron at the opening of the annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl was simply grueling. The conditions were bleak, with the temperature in the fifties and a slight drizzle fluttering in from every which way. Most of the competition that fills the fenced-off court in previous years was gone, leaving the pavement at Government Center slick. Despite the uneasy conditions, with potential to lose one's grip, balance, or feeling in one's extremities at every turn, those with guts of steel and gullets of gargantuan strength made it out for all the tough licks and delicious hits at the Scooper Bowl.
