The Patriots are in Oakland and the team, and Boston's sports fans, need a win. The Pats, fresh off a surprising loss to Buffalo, need to find a defense to stop someone. As for fans, well, you were there last week and we're moving forward as Bill Belichick might say. We'll start with Tom Brady. He chopped that hair right out of his helmet and we hope he has met his yearly interception quota. He tends to respond well after having bad games. Brady is 4-1 in games after he throws four interceptions. He's 25-6 after a loss.

We love Glen Davis and Jeff Green and what they do for the Celtics. But, when they outscore the Big Three of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in a game then the Celtics are in trouble. That's what happened last night and the Houston Rockets took advantage of it with a 93-77 Friday night victory as Green (17) and Davis (16) had 33 combined points while Pierce, Allen and Garnett tallied 29. Houston led 62-40 at the half.

A 2-0 advantage wasn't enough for the Boston Bruins as they dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to Buffalo. Loads of penalties did not help one bit - Jack Edwards seemed convinced it was a conspiracy to balance the lack of a suspension for Zdeno Chara - as Boston twice gave away the lead.
Allowing 60 points in the first half is usually a good way to lose a game and last night was no different as the Clippers cruised to a 60-43 lead at the half and escaped with a 108-103 win at the TD Garden. Even 61 points in the second half wasn't enough as the Celtics fell to 27-6 at the Garden. Gary Tanguay said on CSN that every home loss has been to a western conference team.

See? No offense, Eagles or Terriers, but the Beanpot needn't always be all about the BC/BU matchup. Monday's Garden double-header offered a pair of thrilling hockey matchups for Boston-area hockey fans, and while the Boston University community is wincing today, at least they can take consolation in knowing that they were part of an exciting installment of the area college tradition.
The last time we saw the Bruins and the Celtics, they were leaving the TD Garden playing surface in defeat. Both teams hope to bounce back today as they have competing national TV games on tap. The Bruins got embarrassed by the Detroit Red Wings, 6-1, on Friday night and complete the home-and-home set this afternoon. Coach Claude Julien expects the B's to put in a better effort today.
We know Boston College and Boston University will usually play a hockey game in February. They did it again last night at the Beanpot and it was a memorable battle, won by BC 3-2 on an overtime blast from Tommy Cross.
