On December 12th Berklee College of Music hosted a show (broadcast live for Sirius Canada) dedicated to the music of Canadian artists - rapper k-os and rockers The New Pornographers were billed as the headliners. The Canadian music scene has been on indie radars for a while now, and this show proved that the attention has been well deserved. The show began with performances by Canadian Berklee students, and while all the students showed truly stunning talent, one young woman was a standout. Fiddler Ivonne Hernandez played with heart and vigor - her fiddling was rich and complex and her love of the music apparent. Judging from these performances, the students certainly have bright futures ahead of them.

The Click Five, Boston's skinny-tie clad power pop band, is down one lead singer. The Globe reported today that Eric Dill has left the band. While the rest of the band wished Dill luck in a statement, they were quick to remind fans that the first single off the band's sophomore release will be piped through radio speakers next month. They also joke -- oh how we hope they joke -- about "hot topless shots" of the yet-unannounced new singer.

Bostonist was a-rockin’ this weekend, even before the Rolling Stones took the stage at Fenway. Juliana Hatfield commanded a faithful audience at the Paradise on Saturday night, following Boston locals Furvis and The Gentlemen. Hatfield, backed up by The Gentlemen’s drummer and bassist, offered a refreshing dose of thoughtful, introspective rock and roll.
If you’re not in the mood for political shop talk you can skip the Russert presentation at the JFK library and head on over to a presentation by Roger Steffens in honor of what would be Bob Marley’s 60th birthday. Steffens and the Berklee College of Music’s "The Music and Life of Bob Marley" class will present a multimedia presentation at David Friend Recital Hall. The presentation is rumored to include clips from Steffen’s collection of unreleased and rare Marley along with video, audio, and a performance to cap it off.
