Craigie on Main is the Hotness

It's official: the Boston food industry crowd is in love with Craigie on Main, the newly expanded venture of Cambridge chef Tony Maws (formerly of Craigie Street Bistro). On a recent visit to the new space, this Bostonist spotted employees from Green Street, Eastern Standard, Dante and Drink bellying up to the bar. Here, wunderkind Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli, recently of Eastern Standard himself, was mixing up rye cocktails and housemade vermouths to rival any served at these other temples of mixology.

She is 86. [Boston Globe] --Today marks the last day of Bob's Southern Bistro and the opening of some generic swanky watering hole. This weekend both NEMO and the Beantown Jazz festival will be taking place in town. NEMO is a showcase for New England artists, a networking opportunity for the little-known and the big fish. The performances will invade, occupy, and entertain at just about every venue in Boston. It's a great opportunity to see your favorite local band – or discover a favorite you never knew you had. It's a whole lot to take in,...

Although Bostonist generally gravitates to low-cost eateries, when a local newbie makes it into Conde Nast Traveler, we sit up and take notice. We'll let you in on a little secret – high priced eateries usually offer more affordable brunches. It's a great way to sample the atmosphere and nosh without taking in the full bill of dinner. It wasn’t long before we found ourselves in the darkened bar of OM Restaurant and Lounge, eager to see what all the fuss was about.

For those living across river (or willing to hop the Red Line or #1), Bostonist thinks there’s no better place to grab a pint, munch on some gourmet pub fare (yes, there is such a thing) and hear our favorite local band than The Plough & Stars, reopening this Friday.

If, like Bostonist, you totally flaked out on Boston Winter Restaurant Week and now can't even get a 10 p.m. reservation at any of the 90 participating establishments since it's Thursday...well, luck be a lady! Some of the restaurants have declared the week so successful that they're extending the $20.06 lunch/$30.06 dinner pricing structure for another week. A complete list of eateries participating in the extension here.

You can catch Bostonist at Spire, Anthem and and Oceana, in the Long Wharf Marriott (just behind Tia's). Reviews to come in late August and early September. Restaurant Week is one of the best dining weeks in the Hub, there is one thing that Bostonist thinks might make it better: Tax Free Dining. Anyone think Mitt might let us get away with a Meal Tax Holiday? A fixed-price, tax-free meal would be the closest thing in Boston to a free lunch.

Don't let the threat of snow cause you to hibernate this weekend, here are some events to get you off the internerd and away from the TiVo.

Lots of the city's fancy restaurants are opening their cash registers this weekend for The 14th Annual Super Hunger Brunch. Thirty-seven eateries are having brunches with 100% of the proceeds going to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Prices range from $20 at Dockside Restaurant to $50 at Icarus. You can pick up a "Chef Card" ticket in advance at the restaurants, and many have already sold out. And if you aren't the type to get up before noon, you can grab dinner at Il Capriccio tonight or Craigie Street Bistro and Garden of Eden tomorrow, and they'll donate some dollars as well.
