Is an audio slideshow like a video? Kind of, but better! Just like a Wesley is great, but even better when you can be one too. Elsa Kim talked to local band You Can Be A Wesley (of which our own Nick is a member) about the band's finally, finally released album. Elsa says:

Once upon a time, we gave you weekly music picks. We're trying to bring that back. Each Monday we'll tell you where to go—and, sometimes, where not to go—for decent tunes this week. We'll try to strike a balance between local bands and visiting acts. And what a fortuitous week to begin: the Rock 'n Roll Rumble brings us lavish local talent all week long. Got other suggestions? There's something heartwarming about tradition. It brings people together, it gives those people something to celebrate, and it provides us all with a little something to look forward to. However, when it comes to punk rock, it's always been this Bostonist's humble opinion that breaking with tradition and rejecting the histrionics of ritualized performance for something meaningful, even downright touching, is what defines punk.

This probably reflects more on the general trend of Bands Must Be From Brooklyn Or Austin Or No One Will Like Them than on the Boston music scene, and hundreds of bands will be added to the festival before March. Still, it might've been nice to see a few more area folks on the bill by now.
Bostonist caught Broken River Prophet's CD release party at the Middle East upstairs last night, complete with cupcakes and amazing openers. We just missed Ba-Na-Nas, but had the pleasure of hearing Animal Hospital, BRP themselves, and of course headliners +/-. Here's what it looked like from the crowd.

Bostonist had a sudden urge to saunter over to PA's Lounge tonight, and we're so glad we did. Not only did they have the Pats game on in the bar side, so we could stay updated on the football front, but they also had an evening of sweet (mostly) local sounds on the music side of the venue. Though we (sadly) missed opener Elizabeth Butters, we were able to catch The Battle of Land and Sea, Baba Yaga, and Tiger Saw, all of which put on remarkably simple yet compelling sets that restored our faith in seeing music.
