The Downtown Crossing location formerly occupied by Filene's is for sale again as owners Boston Global Investors and Vornado Realty Trust have hired a broker to move the property. The construction plans for the site continued to stall since 2008, which drew criticism of the developers from Mayor Tom Menino. The normally bland - that's not necessarily an insult, just an observation on their tone - Boston Business Journal described the site as a "crater" and a "carcass." According to the Boston Business Journal, Berklee College of Music has purchased land on Mass Ave from the First Church of Christ, Scientist. The school got 13,300 square feet for $6.25 million, and will use the space (currently leased, in part, to McDonald's) to meet its master plan needs.

Wasted money aside, Boston may have a few things going for it. The South Africa–based National Association for Female Executives recently announced the Top 50 Companies for Executive Women based on programs for women and women in existing positions of power. Boston Business Journal points out that at least 20 of these top 50 companies have offices in Massachusetts, making this a decent state to be in if you're a female executive.
