--Massachusetts earned a C in state government from the Pew Center. Given the state of the Big Dig, is it any wonder? [Boston Herald] --The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA, which includes Calderwood Pavilion and the Cyclorama) is undergoing a sudden change in leadership. [Boston Globe] --Glenn Ordway, local sports radio host on WEEI, is taking some time off the air because his wife and daughter sustained injuries during childbirth. [Boston Herald] --In related......

Console yourselves, people. Go out tonight. Puppetry! There shouldn't be much to like about "Parade," the Robert Uhry/Jason Robert Brown musical now making its Boston professional premiere at SpeakEasy Stage. The work is one full of stereotypes - religious, cultural, professional - that reflect the worst aspects of human interaction, and it sets that ugliness to song. There is murder onstage and off. And to top it all off, an audience that sits down for the two and a half hours of......

Zeitgeist Stage Company is rolling through a zinger of a play with "Valhalla," the wit-drenched Paul Rudnick play underway within the Boston Center for the Arts. Two hours have passed by quickly, as Zeitgeist's six-member cast has deftly brought more than 20 laughter-inducing characters from two time periods, to a simple and adaptable stage. The work is frothy fun, but then Rudnick's work throws the company a curve ball. Were "Valhalla" to end 10 minutes......

Fall seems to have set in, at least for now. the temperatures are dropping and people all over the metro have been forced to put their flip-flops away for some more sensible footwear. At least until it gets warm again in another week. Or so we hope. Music abounds again this week and we're listening. Tuesday, 9/12 Branford Marsalis Quartet Braggtown CD Release Concert Berklee alum Branford Marsalis created Cambridge-based (and Rounder distributed) Marsalis......

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for us to claim that all shows should be played outside over the summer. Lucky for us no one listens to our suggestions on venue – so we're heading back inside where the temperature with the AC on is only about five degrees cooler than it is outside. A welcome five degrees, with a tiny bit lower humidity. This week's list hits a variety of shows, something......

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter. Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here. What's better than Bostonist ripping off lines of Beatles songs on a Monday? Checking out the Boy Least Likely To show at TT's. What's better than Bostonist ripping off Beatles lyrics on a Tuesday? The Aaron Goldberg Trio's Boston CD release party. What's better…oh you get the point. Check out this week's music picks for......

Wednesday night marked the launch of Boston Common magazine with a blowout, star-studded event at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama in the South End. Perhaps “star-studded’ is a stretch, but by Boston standards, it was an impressive showing. Celebrities included: Steven Tyler (Boston Common cover star); Christopher Reid (event MC, and yes, Kid of Kid ‘n Play fame); Daniel Sunjata (actor, FX’s Rescue Me); Doc Rivers (Boston Celtics head coach); Todd English (celebrity......

Bostonist got up extra early this morning to tell our dear readers about the many fantastic events happening this evening, but then we turned on the news. Now, we’d really rather just go back to bed for awhile, but here’s a few suggestions that may be close to home, in case you don’t feel like traveling. Over in Allston, at Great Scott, great bands are rocking socks off tonight. The Constantines are teaming up with......
