City Council president Maureen Feeney (aka "MoFee") had plans to host a big gathering--or kvetch-fest, if you will--at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. At the time it was originally announced, it was seen as a potential irritant to Mayor Menino and a possible traffic nightmare.

We're playing a little game we call "what's Tommy's name not on?" The Zamboni that smoothes the ice at the Frog Pond? It's on there. The welcome sign to Boston? It's on there. The toothbrushes the Boston Public Health Commission distributes? It's on there (and happens to be absurdly huge.) The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center? Yeah, that's it. Menino's name does not adorn the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is not yet called...

Some people might wind up on the blotter starting tomorrow. Police are getting ready for an onslaught of protesters for Bio 2007, the gigantic biotech conference that starts on Sunday. We think that making such a fuss about it makes protesters look like a bunch of peasants armed with pitchforks, and anyone working in biotech should already be prepared for people to have a lot of questions. It's probably going to be a lot of...

Our new governor is, in the words of Bob Dylan, really taking his potatoes down to be mashed. His staff announced that he landed Yo Yo Ma for his inaugural bash on January 4. Hear that? Yo Yo freaking Ma!

Before the book clubs, car giveaways, and Bob Greene, Bostonist didn't really mind Oprah and her show. Then Ms. Winfrey began her path to spiritual bliss and started her magazine, and now she is a guru of anything having to do with females. So, she’s now pairing up with her own set of “gurus” and is hosting the O You! event this Saturday at the Boston Convention Center. For a measely(!) $95 resgistration fee, you too can join the Oprah-maniacs and listen to the wisdom of Suze Orman, Dr. Robin Smith, and Martha Beck. From there, you can get some fashion, home and entertaining, and health advice at additional workshops.

Restaurant Week, that wonderful time in late summer when Bostonist plans ahead so that we don’t break the bank eating $30 tasting menu dinners all week long. This year the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau has set up another Restaurant Week – Winter Restaurant Week 2006, March 5-10 (this URL was the one reported in multiple places including the press release but appears to be out of comission today) . Prices have gone up, but only for a penny to reflect the year. Lunch will be $20.06, dinner for $30.06. The three-course prix fixe menu is a quite a deal for dining in some spots around the Hub. Watch yourself not to go too reservation crazy, we’ve warned you before that the $12 Croma pizza may be great, but that means you’ve spent $18 on a start and finish to the meal.

It’s good to know that Brian McGrory is still on his game. Bostonist felt that the opinion piece fell a bit short of due political criticism. Not to imply that it isn’t a great thing for Massachusetts to host the few hundred people at Camp Edwards, it is, nor suggest that Romney shouldn't have done it, he could and should, rather posit that something political was Mitt's motivation.

Bostonist is sure you all have been watching the horror and devestation that Hurricane Katrina has brought to the Gulf Coast states last week. While federal officials have finally admitted that there are indeed thousands dead as local officials had announced last week, the looting and lawlessness shown on the news has subsided and now those stranded residents are finally being rescued. The state of Massachusetts decided to help out as well, taking in 2,500...
